The Devil Went Down to Georgia...

Cool pictures!

Some of those scenes and settings look they'd be right at home in a horror movie!

Outstanding pics guys!! Wish I could have made it. Did you go down Old Bucktown Rd (to the left) for back towards Nimblewill?
We were running pretty late for Carl to head back to NC so we hightailed it down Nimblewill Church RD. Didn't they recently grade Old Bucktown? Even so I'm sure the harsh winter has funned it up again.

They did, it's just muck when it rains, no gravel. We drove up it a couple of weeks ago, it still had several inches of snow in spots. The deep ravine has been filled in also.

Great pics mate, fantastic :)
The fog & the effect that it gives off in the photos is brilliant  Especially as the area appears to be quite full of mystery indeed :surprised:

Just a few more...

The trail pretty much turned to this.

This is just before...

A rock and a hard place, and/or a rock(s) and a relatively serious drop off on the far side. This is where the snatch strap came out, and rock approaches were built to get E.J. over the rock on the right. This is why skid plates are so important, and like E.J. said " you don't go doing this alone".

036.jpg

I believe it was on the third time E.J. finally got over. No serious drama, and besides a few battle scars no damage done, even YotaRu scraped the left control arm going over. And, did I mention that it was COLD!!! Probably right around freezing with super dense fog and a good strong wind, BRRRR. Always be prepared no matter what you think the weather might do, it was supposed to be sunny and warm. I had gloves in my car but never got them out, should have. E.J. and Kyle had theirs on by the time we got E.J. over the rock my hands were chilled to the bone.

Trail ended shortly after that and I headed home, GA sunset mountains.

And the devil...he really did go down to Georgia...

He was going to be in some of the pics, made it into a few at the beginning, but he just sat in the car whining about his hemorrhoids and other whatnot...wuss!!!:eviltoyou:

Carl Carl Carl.....my jaw is on the ground again!

You live in an amazing area, PLUS I just love any kind of Urban Exploration (Urbex) - ie: going into abandoned places/infrastructure/industrial sites).

Very enjoyable viewing!

Thanks Tweaksta!!! I've been to a couple of places in North GA now, some great trails and definitely more exploring to be done.:)

I also live exploring places with history like that and old infrastructure, I like knowing what things are, but it's also cool when it's up to you to figure out what something was.

Hey E.J., Do you mind if I use some of your pics??? I think I see a new avatar in there and I would like to put some up on the FB album I did of the trip.

The wife being a photographer I never use someone else's pics without asking.:) And, while we're at it, feel free to use any of mine for whatever.:iconwink:

Great pictures guys, the trip looked awesome! Wish we had somewhere like that to explore in this part of the state.
Carl, how long did it take you to get from NC to where you guys were in GA?

YouTube - The Charlie Daniels Band - The Devil Went Down to Georgia (live)

"The Devil :lildevil: went down to Georgia
He was lookin' for some trails to wheel
he was in a bind, and got a little behind
so he made his tires squeal...":quitar:

When he came across that georgia line, he was movin pretty hot
And Carl jumped upon a hickory stump and said: Dude, let me tell you what!::lildevil:
I bet you didn't know it, but im'a wheeler' too
And if you care to take a dare, we'll all go trailin too
Now you got ah' pretty nice Foz boy, but give 'ole Carl his due,
I bet a red YotaRu against your Su' that it can run over you
Well my names EJ and it might be a sin
But i'll take your bet your gonna regret, 'cos the RU will ALWAYS WIN!

EJ saddle up your foz and hit that gas hard
Cos' Carl's runnin loose in Georgia & he really cheats at cards
And if you win you'll get that dirty thing he calls "YotaRu"
But if you loose Ole' Carl gets your caaaaaaaar!!

Alright that was my best shot! Wasn't exactly what one could call "flowin" :discomonkey:
Oh and, no offense to the "dirty thing he calls yotaru", carl! It was all i had!

Please feel free to use any of the pics I post up here:cool:

BTW here is a google map of the trip I did using "my tracks" on my android.
https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=...426,-84.188156&spn=0.310191,0.441513&t=h&z=11

Feel free to use it as well if you like.

Thanks E.J.!!!

The map is cool, I'm going to look at it a lot closer when I've got some time. Is "my tracks" a down loadable app, or is it something on the phone already??? Going to have to look into it.

Carl, how long did it take you to get from NC to where you guys were in GA?

Took me about 3 1/2 hours, which is an hour more than the GPS told me. It was well worth the trip though.:)

:yourock: And no offense taken, if fact quite the true description. She does make it through the car wash pretty often, and I keep the inside free of 'clutter', but beyond that not much else happens.:iconwink:

https://mytracks.appspot.com/
It's a free download, wish I would have updated mine before the trip, the newest version is a little more accurate.

Got it!!! Will play soon.

Hey E.J., you still planning a trip up in Apr. sometime??? A comment on a FB pic spawned a trip on the 16, sorry, don't think it's Subie compatible, but any weekend after that I'd be good for Brown Mtn.

Looks like some good fun. As I get mine rigged up for some offroading (need skid plates) I'll look forward to joining up in a few of these forays.

Dawson Forest is onlt about 35-40 miles from me.

Howdy and :welcome:SmokyMtnSmoke!!!

Love to have you along sometime. If you don't mind a drive up to NC, E.J. and I should be doing Brown Mountain sometime this spring/summer. I'd also like to get down to GA again and do some more exploring. (If you search Brown Mountain in 'trip reports', plenty of pics)

Welcome aboard SmokyMtnSmoke, good to see another Georgian on here! One more and we will have to start calling it "Far Western Australia" :iconwink:

Really looking forward to Brown Mountain some time this summer Carl, with the baby coming in May all of a sudden my days off are busy trying to satisfy my wifes nesting instinct. We will certainly be up in Asheville to show the kid off to the family once he/she is portable.

That's not to say I won't be taking any spontaneous mid-week trips up to mountains...
