My favourite off road shot. It was with some intense satisfaction I drove my car up here, when no one (including me) thought we had any chance. On my old warn road tyres that would barely pass a pink slip, I was told that I should have had AT's. And I should have done a driver training course. Because clearly the tyres were no good and clearly I didn't know how to drive. The trip leader took off and he got stuck, and after a number of attempts he got out the other side. The car in front of me, a newish Pajero on brand new AT's went next. He took 3-4 goes to get out. Neither had a trailer.
So I thought, bugger it, lets go and see where we stop. Half way across, having scanned the far side of the creek, I decide where I'm going to come out. I then floor it, but that does bugger all. I then wait for the car to get stuck, like the others had. As I get closer, i reckon that maybe I was right to choose the exit point where I did. I maintain my line, and then I'm up and climbing the bank, wondering when I'll stop. Until I realise I'm not going to stop, and then wow, we're out and first go, and with a trailer as well.
I'm overjoyed, and so is everyone else. I did not realise till then that so many people were watching, as they all went nuts as well. For quite some time, as owe waited on the side of the road for the rest of our group, others would cheer me as they drove by. Once underway, and we drove by their campsites, they still cheered. So the least likely car in the whole group blew everyone away and maybe, just maybe, I had some idea of how to drive the thing.
