This is for the 215/65/R16 Yokohama Geolander A/T S @ onlinetires.com. This is BY FAR the cheapest price i've found & should more than make up for any mounting costs$$ you incur from not buying locally. Ground shipping is around $73, with a cost of $95.88 a tire. This size tire is usually the largest size you come across that can fit a stock subie.

Don't count out www.walmart.com either. They ship for free to their stores, where you can pick them up. Found the General Grabber AT/2 on there the other day for $92 a tire, but then went back the following day & they had jumped up to $130.
Shopping around is a hectic thing! Do your searching before you buy!

Damn i wish they were that cheap down here
You're not wrong mate. At that price you could do all 4x plus the spare for about what it costs us for either the front or the rear, here in Aust.

How much does a set put you guys back down there anyways?
The going rate in Aust for the Geo AT/S (215/65/16) is around the $220-$230 per corner IE: $880-$920 for a set of 4x

Tirerack sell them for US$100 each. WIth the Au$ currently worth a fraction more than the US$, you can import them from the US at a good price and not pay GST! A friend in the WRX Club imports tyres from Tirerack frequently. Even allowing for freight it works out well.

MrT - is that tyre profile suitable for the 3GEN outback? I belive the factory spec is 215/60/R16.

Are these a good tyre?

Cheers,
Skender.

I can answer that a couple of ways.
Yes the factory spec is 215/60/16
Yes the 215/65/16 will fit, however, the largest you can fit legally is 215/60/16. Thats in NSW, not sure about Melbourne though. Best to check with the Vic RTA about that.

Personally I think that they are a great tyre (as do other members on here) & will probably get them again when the time comes.

If you're worried about the legallities though, these Geo AT/S do also come in the 215/60/16 size too.

Thanks for that. :)

I managed to find the other Geo thread with some of the pro's and cons that have been posted up here. Good reading.

I'd probably end up going with the 60 anyway - but what's the main reason ppl go with the 65's? Pardon my ignorance.

Cheers,
Skender.

higher sidewall ratio, basically means they are a lil taller, give more clearance, and more room to let tires down to lower pressures, but if you go with 70's, they'll probly rub, as i have 70's. mine to rud on full lock, and part way thru turning...
might go down to 65's next time round,

How does this work? One of your wrx guys buy them, then ship them over to you guys? I wouldn't mind helping out doing something like this at no additional cost to help save you guys some money. I looked at UPS shipping and it was like $1300 to ship something that size over there! I'm sure there are other ways, i just don't have a clue.

A lot of people run the 65's even though they are not quite legal. They are better off road and some of the more aggresive offroad designs don't come in less than 65 series.

I've always run 60's but am tempted to go 65's. The speedo becomes spot-on with 65's - but when riding on 60's 99 km/h on the speedo is actually 90 km/h in real life.

Nor do I. Thanks for the kind offer. I might be seeing him this weekend and I'll try to remember to ask him how they are shipped.

interesting about the 65's correcting the speedo. mine is also out - 100 kph on the clock is actually about 95.....

I like the sound of the added clearance with the 65's too, I'm tempted too tweaksta.

I'm keen on exploring the import option if others here are too... sounds like some decent dollars to be saved. Any info would be helpful Rallly.

Like Tweaksta said, there is a lot more choice when you go to the 65's.
I also like the added size of the walls in that it gives you a little more clearence.
You can run them at lower pressures too, which allows the the tyre to bag a little more.

Will it fit the well for the spare?

I had my tyres recently changed from the OEM 215/55R17 to Yokohamas Geolandar A/T-S on size 215/60R17. Got 5 tyres in total, fitted, balanced and aligned for $1500, so not exactly cheap.

The answer to the question above from Barry in my case is: NO, they do not fit the well.

BUT! When there's a will, there's a way! I've made it fit as per my post on ausubaru.com. See here.

Cheers,
Pedro.

Alternatively, could (partially) deflate the tyre and carry the compressor.

True, true!

In my case, I could only fit it to the original well by deflating the spare to 4 psi. I decided towards bashing the well in (or out?!), but you could certainly just use a compressor...

Pedro.
