My 94 WRX Offroader

Come on guys, you know you want to join the admirers club..........In a sick sort of way I kind of want one, but with STI running gear.

Someone get a gun and shoot it

It's not the poor car's fault.

but the poor thing looks like it is in agony and it seems the only right thing to do!
Agreed.

We'll have to be quick, 'cause look, they're multiplying.
I do like the blue one on the end though. :iconwink: :)

Makes me want to put an ATM somewhere so they'll use one of these things as a ram raider. I'm with you Damo- the blue one would be my pick too. Sir Winston Churchill might have described it as: "Never in the history of the motor vehicle has so much ugliness being unleashed on so many by so few".

About on a par with the 'inscruitable' thought processes in one of my favourite episodes of M*A*S*H, when BJ was measured up for pinstripe suit, which the tailor then dutifully produced ... with HORIZONTAL 'stripes'.

I often think that the aesthetic detail of car design is something that has difficulty crossing the cultural divide. For example the 'whale shark' face on the Great Wall 4x4s.

Looks like these imprezas have had a run in with a jag...

The designers should be sacked and their families dishonoured!

And there I was thinking it was designed by the dynamic duo of Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder.

Small update as I haven't driven it for a couple of months, I've found out a mate has 99% acquired a DCCD center diff for me, all I need to do is find a controller for it which should be easy enough from the States. Every second car up here has one of those alloy racks so I'm going hunting tomorrow, I'm in a place called Chiang Rai in north east Thailand, talk about cheap, I'm living in a sort of motel with free breakfast, wifi, air con, bar fridge for a whopping $11.00 and renting a Honda 125 scooter for $6.25 per day.

I've had a look at some of the off road/4X4 stuff they have here, a front bar in Stainless & powder coating but looking just like the $2,000 ones is around $500, fairly solid nudge bar around $75 & formed & shaped rear bar around the $80-90 mark.....unfortunately in 5 weeks in Thailand I saw my first Subaru last night so nothing in the parts list but not to say they are not being made, I'll look into it further if I can fine someone who sells the parts & speaks English lol.

Make sure to pick you up a nice Tag Heuer watch off the streets before you leave. Paid $6 for a good (stolen im sure) model when i went there in highschool on a trip with friends. Came back & had it appraised, turned out to be the real deal selling here for $850.

Damn, I'll keep an eye out, thousands of nice watches here, trying to get decent sunnies is the hard part, snapped 2 pairs in 2 days DOH, might have to get a proper pair from a real shop.

Do you have problems whit hi-lo range gear box in combination whit much powerful turbo engine?

It'll go alright - just don't flog it or do harsh gearbox changes especially when in low range!

Venom on here has a liberty with a H6 and a dual range gearbox, a lot more torque down low compared to a turbo EJ so you'll be right if you look after it!

Cheers

Hmmm, this thread has got me thinking about things I never considered before.

Anyone have any idea of how much a used dual range box and installation might cost?

Depends which box you want, Liberty boxes go from around $300, I'd say the Foz box will be like above.

My box handled it without a problem, the only gear you need to worry about is 1st as it's much thinner than the one in your box, just be sympathetic with it and you'll be fine, though mine had 4.44 crown wheel & pinion and OBX LSD so I think that takes a lot of the strain out of the standard box by distributing forces more evenly.

Hi Guys.

I have driving my SF STI AT in sand dunes for years! side by side with vitaras and jeeps. Very happy with the performance, and the 275 60 15 sand tires are gorgeous for this job.

BUT if you dont manage the low torque at low speeds, things can go very stucked!! and sometimes i cant get off the dunes if the car is partially deep in the sand.

So my way to go is put a NA Dual range in a MT turbo forester.

Im not sure if the better platform to start would be a SF turbo or a SG turbo. SF has 240 hp, but the SG has a more torquei 220hp engine (JDM CARS)

About the chassis, are both same strenght? or the older SF would be stronger??

Please take a look to my ride in action
