To Chat or not

Based on mixed responses and before spending too much time to determine the technical implications of creating a chat room on this forum we should gauge demand so I'm adding a poll.

I voted no because I'm not on here enough to use a chatroom and chat rooms don't archive well (or at all) so all the help offered in them would be wasted and not be able to be found under a search function.

I'm voting 'Don't care either way'. Personally, I don't care for chatting, but I wouldn't want to deny it for others.

There may be something already in place, but I haven't been able to figure it out yet. DirtyRu may have the answer, he sent me a 'visitor message'. It doesn't seem to be a true chat feature, but it may foot the bill.

DirtyRu did you get my response??? And how did you send that message to begin with??? I can't seem to figure it out.

Very good point. I voted either way. It could be a good spot to just chat but if any useful info was talked about there then we wouldnt have it on the forum. So it would be pointless.

Judging by the small amount of use the 'Contributors Den' (available to contributing members only) I'm not sure there is a great demand.
Looked at another way, why not promote the 'Den' as a chat room, to encourage more members to contribute. For those keen enough to use a chat room I think the minimal $ to become a contributing member wouldn't be an unreasonable imposition.

This would achieve 2 outcomes - a 'chat room' and increased support for the site.

Sure did Carl. I didn't get a notification of it, but when you asked, i knew to check. When you scroll down below a users info on their profile page, there's a box where you can leave someone a mssg. That was all i did.

 I have learned many things here and I am grateful to have this place to come to. I am one of the new guys and I have had many new guy questions. I wonder how much faster insights could be communicated with the judicial use of a chat. I feel Bru and Tink are on the right track. And if it doesn't happen it is still a great place to be!!!!!:bananatoast:

Time zone difference can interefere with chat. Here we are GMT + 11, WA is GMT + 8, and then you have Europe (GMT or GMT +1) Africa- not sure of their time zones as I've never rung anyone or been there, and the US which from memory can be up to GMT -6? But, if you can get the right person at the right time then that's great.

I did start a facebook page for subaru owners quite a while back and had posted news of it on SF.org. I didnt look at it for a few months until the other day & actually had a few people on there. Anybody who want's to use it is more than welcome for a chat feature. It's Texas Subaru Forester Owners.

We could a Facebook group as opposed to Facebook page. We then can use the group chat feature
