Venoms lifted H6 Gen2 Lib

Hey guys,

Thought i might share the details of my car around on here ;) I bought this in March. Flew up to Al's from AMAutos place in QLD and drove it back to Victoria with my girlfriend co-driving. This was Als personal car which he converted to a EZ30D. Pit-stop at Bennies to show off on the way back of course. I had a month wait to get into the engineers, which was worth it. Only changes required were a padded steering wheel and a quieter muffler, easy :D I had to change to stock shocks and springs for the RWC which i wasn't happy about because they were engineered.

Current specs are:
2003 Outback H6
V3 STI gearbox
4.44 ratio diffs
Front LSD, clutch pack Rear LSD on my desk
277mm WRX front brakes

Fuel use has so far averaged 9.53L/100km over 5 tanks of fuel. It is very efficient on the highway and around town if driven appropriately.

Plan is to build this into an off-roader.

These are Als pics from the sale and his posts on the conversion process.

Not much mate. Tried all sorts of additives. The real solution is the new motor!

Always exciting when parts are in the mail! Waiting on a full H6 gasket kit (genuine!) and genuine thermostat, LIC aluminum half-moon plugs, solid center prop shaft mounts, Exedy HD clutch kit, new set of Iridium spark plugs (farkin expensive!!!!), gold brushed GTB dash and trim inserts, zerospors front grill (kinda ugly but we'll see), Tein front bonnet damper kit.

Might swap out the stock H6 thermostat for an STI one though, which is about 5deg cooler. H6's run hotter than the H4s...

be cautious about that mate. H6's have an optimum operating temp which is higher than H4's. Talk to Al first i reckon. It was on advice from him that I increased the temp at which fans come on and go off.

Changing the thermostat won't reduce an overheating issues, but might effect fuel economy and performance.

I'll see how it all goes with the new radiator. It's a stock thermostat I've got coming in the mail anyway.

Picked up a set of H6 rear brakes from PAP, but didn't realise they were actually bigger.

Comparing the rotors.

The dust shield on the backing plate was too small so i ripped it off.

Bigger is better :)

H6 rotors and calipers fitted up on the RH side.

Pretty happy with the results. Also have some plans for a slight brake upgrade upfront as well, Landcruiser front pads fit into the Suby 4 pot caliper but have a bigger pad area. However engine first.

Just more stopping power. Same pad/sweep area and caliper, just a larger diameter rotor and the caliper has more off-set so it sits correctly for that rotor. It does make a noticeable difference to braking performance.

The brakes feel more balanced now. My car felt like it was very front brake biased with the WRX brakes front and rear. Perhaps the braking system wasn't biased correctly for the WRX setup.

The pedal feels better too, but that's probably because of some air in the lines I've been driving with for a few years!

More go power & now more stopping power! :lildevil:

D'oh haha

I prob need to bleed my brakes too lol. Brake fluid only lasts a few years & its prob been at least 4 since mine were done

Just need some caliper paint. I'm thinking lime green!

So my spare tyre doesn't fit in the wheel well now its a 225/70R15. Even bolted firmly down it's just too fat. So I threw all my recovery gear in the wheel well included my hand winch.

Then I remembered I had some d-shackle mounting brackets so I figured I may as well use them.

Pretty neat I think.

Then I adapted a baby-seat restraint to one of the cargo barrier mounts so i could secure my spare tyre off to one side. That gave me enough room to move my new sub in the back and off the back seat.

The trim in the rear needs to be replaced so I've just left it out for now.

Also have a rear step-panel thingy to put on after I spent the morning peeling off the double-sided tape from it.

The Coopers are great off-road. Not sure if it's the tread or the extra width of the 225 but I'm really happy with them. Enough grip on the road to handle the H6 and all the aftermarket diffs.

And enough to handle your "spirited" driving style lol :rotfl:

Pretty much so considering they're at AT they do well.

Beatrush prop/tailshaft mounts came in today, as well as the aluminium half moon plugs.

Clutching into gear feels smoother and so does the change from from on/off throttle.

Thought the prop mounts might cure the bunny hoping my car does when applying throttle at low speeds or going over a speed bump. Nothing to do with gear changes so hoping the new clutch/pressure plate cures it... this problem has been annoying me for years.

You're really replacing heaps of the little bits, bushes, etc. Pretty soon it'll be like new, esp when you get the engine done :lildevil:
