I'm looking for expressions of interest in 2mm alloy sump guards much the same as I had for sale previously. This time as a group buy.
Minimum order 10 - $190
Minimum order 20 - $170
Post and handling - $30
or pickup from Dakabin, just north of brisbane, QLD

They have been modified only slightly with bigger slots at the back to allow for lifted vehicles and the holes for fitment to SG Forries have been added.
Otherwise they are the same design.

I would like all expressions of interest by November 19, 2009.
delivery would be around 3 weeks later if we have enough ordered.

I have posted this on Ozfoz and will also put it on Ausubaru, so please don't double up on your expressions of interest.

Don't forget to tell your friends who are not on the forums.

I might be interested. Let me know what the numbers are like. Who makes them- would like to know how others have found them to perform

I have them made by a laser cutting and folding mob in Brisbane.
Talk to Bumper, jason tincey OR t303 about theirs.

I'm not that familiar with OB's, being a Forrie owner, but I did do a one off for a friend with a "96 OB.
If you can get in touch with Russ at SubiEvolution in Brendale QLD, he bought one of my previous sumpguards and modded it to fit his OB.

if it has the same fixing holes as the subaX ones they will fit an OB 99-03 with an adapter/extention plate for the rear fixings

I will be a long way from home for a long time. Money is not the issue here it is the protection.
What is the Subaxtreme one made from and which will serve me better??:)

Cast alloy and quite a bit heaver (mass/weight)

I just love my sump guard with all its war wounds

Gee, you should have seen the one that came off my Falcon. The goiuges I had in that- and the dents- were a worry. I suppose you get that on rough roads in low cars

So the alloy would be more prone to cracking but offer better protection because it is thicker? and the other could be belted back into shape but not as robust?

We used alloy sump guards on the rally cars and cracking was not an issue, and could be bent back into shape. During a rushed service, we actually drove over the thing so it could be re-fitted. (Why they decided to remove it is another matter). Of course, they do need to be replaced eventually

All very good points.

Mine can be straightened but won't take the punishment that the SubaExtreme guard will take (because of it's weight/mass).
I just took a big hit on the weekend on the freshwater track off double island point beach. I'll post pics later.

The difference is that the SubaExtreme guard is CAST alloy and can't be straightened, it will crack instead.

If you want something stronger, I suggest you make one of 6mm alloy.
Just remember, with a big enough hit, you could set off your airbags. That shouldn't be a problem with the SubaExtreme guard as it should have undergone airbag compliance testing costing thousands of dollars. That's just one reason for the SubaExtreme price.

Just consider what you are using it for and where you a going to go and base your choice around those parameters.

I'm not here to try and sell you anything, just offering a cheaper alternative to replace the OEM plastic guard that lasts about 5 minutes offroad.

Ok, i get frustrated by these sort of debates. We can't compare these two dissimilar sump guards as the only commonality is, that they are made of an alloy and they are better than the plastic factory ones.

* one is a designed and engineered alloy casting made to an industry standard, with a warranty.
* one is fabricated from welded sheet of unknown alloy and temper with an unknown warranty.

Whether they are made of butter or titanium they both do a respectable job of protecting the sump, how long either will last is up to how you treat them.
