2jz929's forester transformation

Thought i would make a little thread on my Forester. Bought it stock around 3 months ago and started making changes within the first week of owning it. Its a '03 2.5XT auto.

When i first got it, it had Thule roof racks and a Haymen Reece towbar which were added bonuses.

Heres how i first got:

The first thing i did was take it drags to see how it went. Resulting in a 14.9@90mph

I then took it up double island point the next weekend to try it out on the sand and were impressed:

I then bought a second hand subaxtreme bullbar, fixed it up, painted it and put it on the following week:

As i live out in central queensland the next addition was some hella FF1000 driving lights (as you can see in the next pics).

After doing some underbody damage on some 4x4 trips i then needed more underbody protection. So i made up a fairly strong and comprehensive skid plate out of 3mm alloy, which extends from the bullbar to the back of the crossmember.

Needing more offroad traction i have just recently bought a set of 5 Yoko Ats 215/65/16 for it. Now gets amazing traction and really gives more confidence offroad.

When travelling long distances and going up the beach a fair bit i quickly realised i needed a roof basket, so just bought a cheap Prorack basket from Supercheap auto.

And thats three months worths on mods up to date. I will continue to add to this thread as i make changes.

Ran this down willowbank on the weekend. Ended up with a 14.62 @ 92.25mph. Pretty happy. It now has a 2" lift kit as well. Will update with pics when i get decent internet back.

Is this an Aussubaru kit? (From memory your car looks similar to one on their web page.) I am hoping to get their 2" lift for my 05 Outback. :)

Do you have a phone no for them? I'm not sure that their e-mail link is working, and I don't have any other contact details for them.

A full trans fluid flush is about $80 and rarely needed if you have a trans cooler. I have one behind the front grill and have given the car hell on occasion for long periods of time (40mins flat full throttle on high tide @ 3500 in 2nd) and never had the 'trans fluid light temp' come on once. I dont see why an auto with a decent cooler would ever be a problem.

Its up to your preference, but just expect to not be able to go quite a few places without one. Youll have a harder time on the beach, and decent hill climbs just wont happen. With a manual, stopping on a hill isnt an option, and if you do youll either kill your clutch or back all the way back down. You also have to carry too much momentum to keep them in the torque, whereas the autos have a very loose converter standard and can just creep if you need to (i can stall mine out to 3200 on the spot).

Just some things to think about. You just have to decide on the purpose for the car. I personally are very glad i ended up with an auto.

Yeah mate, is the ausubaru one. The bloke that does them is very slow at answering emails and making them. Its took me 3 months to get mine. Would never have got it from there if i had a choice, and the quality wasn't great. Best of luck getting onto them. Ill PM additional contact details.

Or, do like El Freddo suggests, split the box and fit earlier low ratio cogs. :lildevil: If you are going to mod a new car you might as well go all the way! :monkeydance:
