Drowned the foz today!!!!!!

Ok before anyone sais anything i know the 1st rule of water crossings is "get out and walk it" but i have done these tracks so many times before i know what they are like.
i made it thruoght crossing about 3 times the size and twice as deep just before this one, with water flowing over the bonnet and everything, i ended up getting suck in the smallest hole, always the way hahahaha.

the engine warning light came on but then it went off after about 2 mins, engine and everything runs fine, drove it back home, 3 hour drive and it's all good, just the airbag warning light doesn't go off, will cheack it out on monday probs just water some where.

Where is your ECU located?
Fried mine in water that deep.
Change ALL your fluids,diff's,trans,engine.
(water will suck past seals in deep water)
Mine sat a short time in water like that waiting for extraction.
Both rear CV's had water in them and it killed two wheel bearings,one front and one rear. (just finishing up changing all the wheel bearings).
You will not get it dried unless you strip the interior from the car and dry it all real good before putting it back together.

This could be much worse than you think.
 
Bugger. Happens to the best of us though.

And I hate to dwell on the negative, but frogstar above is right. Water gets into everything. Pull out the seats, carpet and ideally even the door trims and get them clean and dry. Change fluids. Undo every electrical connector you can find and give it a squirt of WD40. Have a close look inside all the light assemblies for moisture and drain them if necessary. Even things like pedal pivots will need lubricating if the water got that high.

Keep an ear out in the next couple of weeks for noise in drive belt and timing belt pulley bearings, wheel bearings, fans etc.

yer im pulling the carpet and interor out on monday, i have done it before so it shouldn't take to long. i was planning on doing timing belt, drive belts and water pump in the next 2 weeks anyway. i will be changing all oils that coz i sure there is water in them hahahaha. I was crapping my self about the ECU because i have heard that they get friyed when water gets in but i must have just been very lucky!!!!!!!
i think it could be time to get a BIG landcruiser hahahaha

Once this has happened to you it's oh so funny seeing other do it - it loses all it's "oh no I'm soooo sorry I hope you're ok" factor. I went about a metre deeper in a diesel GQ and ended up with 4 working cylinders, but thank god for the winch or it would have gone downstream)

As others have already said, check all oils & fluids for water, aswell as everywhere else you think water could be. Because it will be everwhere.

Hope your ECU didn't get fried & you're able to get all carpets etc dried out dry.

Bugger! But it seems you're in luck - if the ECU was fried your car would not be running!
 
Back in the 60s I had a Trekka in New Zealand. It was a Skoda based with a limited slip diff. We got stuck on the beach with the tide coming in. The water wa over the seats before we got a tow truck to pull us out.
All the oil was drained and flushed through, drove home and hosed everthing inside and out. Next morning I could see water dripping out of the diff!!! Had to get it all stripped down and fish oiled everything. Got rid of it soon after.
 
Actually the Trekka was a heap of sh!!!! but my boss in Australia wouldn't pay for anything better. cars in NZ were horrendously expensive in those days.

The main problem was the distributor that had a habit of failing at the worst times, like on the beach. It let me down soooo many times. When I left NZ it died beside te motorway to the airport so I left it beside the road and left the keys for the guy who was to replace me in my job. Gave it a good kicking as well.:monkeydance:
 
went to me mechanic today to change we belts and water pump, so while it was up in the air i changed diff oil, engine oil and checked for water in cv's and stuff. i was stoked to see no oil in diff so me diff breather held up all good, no water in engine oil and cv's look good and dry. STOKED looks all good!!!!!!
