My Car Sounds Like A Diesel When Cold

I've got it back - and it sounds and runs like a Subie again (no, not like the Outback diesel)! They said the most likely cause of fouling was that the injector was not sealing properly and they had to clean a lot of mud away from the outside of the injector housing before removing them.

They repaired the #4 injector plugs and swapped the injectors. It seems the standard injector is too efficient and vapourises the fuel too well before it enters the combustion chamber. It think they said the standard is a "101" and they replaced them with "100" (or could be visa versa); there are multi holes in the 101 and less or maybe single in the 100. The 100 is more fuel efficient and provides a little more power.

They reset all the valves; put on a new alternator; air cleaner and I got a car wash and engine degrease thrown in for free!

I spent quite some time chatting with these guys and I am very impressed with their knowledge and enthusiasm for the brand.

Wonderful news Kevin. Really happy that it was only a little drama and relatively little dosh involved.

So. You ready to try that hill at Lidsdale again? :raz:

Bloody oath!
