Please excuse me if this has been covered but has anyone successfully modified their S-Turbo to an dual-range or Low range transmission?
I would like to have a low range gearbox and later put in a torq locker, since I can not put one in an LSD diff.

You guys are so lucky to get the Stb, very nice!

Yes you can fit a dual range, several people have done it to a GT or XT or behind a H6

Welcome to the forums @Schudr
I'm pretty sure there are a few here that have done that to their SG XTs. Not so sure about SF though. I would think it is pretty doable, you'd probably need to change the rear diff ratio too. A lot of people say that the low range in subarus are pretty weak, not that I've had a problem in mine - but then, it's not turbo.

As long as you have an EJ engine, you can fit any EJ gearbox, manual or automatic, everything bolts on ! The only issues could be the electrical part for a swap from manual to automatic, and get all the bits and pieces to finish the puzzle !

yeee I love my ST, its been a daily for 3 years, but the day has come and am transforming it to an Overland rig.

here locals dont mix foresters turbos with dual range gearboxes as they not hold long , well for long time mud off roading and such as they do here , that clutch wont hold for long . if it would be good mix every would do it for that more power. somehow its not for like hard using.

The first thing that breaks, with more power if pushing too hard, is the low range gears.

i guess they tried it and it didint worked .. well i think so with turbo .. that power comes rly only with higher revs ... not like on 3.0 engine lets say ..
i guess last video on what makes off road factors are not turbos . as both VW with turbo engines showed worse results in slow going trough diagonals .

With the SG Foresters, the NA engines have more torque from about 1200-2400 revs than the turbos, IIRC.
