Hanging around being 'domestic' is giving me the s...s!!! so i am thinking about doing a PROPER lap around Oz about the end of next year.
Last lap was in a Mitsibishi Sigma with an Esky as my fridge. This time i have the Forrie and a 50ltr Waeco so that's a good start.
I will be looking for a solid camper trailer and will have a kayak and possibly a small tinnie to amuse myself this time.
A few mods to the car will be done over the next 12 months. I will put some rear HD normal height King springs in the rear and looking at rear DBA slotted disks and Bendix Ultimate pads all round. I will also get a set of proper offroad tyres and will have to settle for a 75 series i guess.
The trailer will have my old steel wheels fitted and a spare and so i will have 3 spares to play with. It will also be able to carry at least 2 jerry cans, more like 4 really, and will have provision for at least 50 ltrs of water.
I am going to fit a HD deep cycle battery in the trailer and wire it up through the trailer wiring and maybe i will have a solar panel of some kind for a bit of extra safety.
I also will get the 100k service done before i go and i my mechanic has told me about $600 for this. He laughed when i told him Subaru charge around $1200.
I'm also thinking,if it can be done that is, of getting the Forrie retuned for a bit more grunt down low. High speed stuff simply won't matter much.
I plonked all my spare money in the share market so depending on how that goes a GPS or other goodies could also be on the cards.
A nice laptop will be a must i reckon!!
Hope to take a year this time and maybe i can get some work in different places to tide me over. A mate from Sydney might come but i am not going to rely on anyone and will need to think this through properly as i plan on doing the Gibb River road and things like that.
CAN"T WAIT!!!!!:):lol::ebiggrin::woohoo::bananatoast::banana:

Sounds fantastic.

BTW - I'm very happy with my DBA slotted rotors

If you want a bit more power for pulling the trailer at slow speed you could fit an l-series low range gear set in it.
It makes a big difference when going off road.

What about this? I am thinking about keeping things simple for my next trip. No camper trailer but instead tow a tinny and use it as my trailer with a good quality 2 man tent and a quick awning set up.
A solar panel and a BIG battery kept in the boat and wiring to the battery through the trailer wiring or somesuch setup.
The trailer could be fitted with my spare wheels and could still carry a few jerry cans. Fridge in the back of the car and maybe a roof basket for some lightweight stuff.
I would save heaps of money and it would be much easier on the car and i would have time to 'refine' things as it would be several months before i was up north and away from civilisation.
I am NOT going around OZ again without a boat and would save a lot of money and could use some of it to upgrade the tinny/motor/trailer over what i was planning to take.
Thoughts???:poke:
