Hey guys,

I'm trying to find a deal on a n/a header for my 05 legacy (2.5i, naturally aspirated 2.5l) , i'm not sure if only the borla style will work...

i feel that the other style with it dumping next to the passenger bank would route up (pending on my actual oil filter placement...)

if anybody can clear this up for me, i'd like to start rounding up some parts so when i get my car back (BY NEXT WEDNESDAY HOPEFULLY!!!!!) i can start getting prepared to put the new exhaust in. I figured waiting 6 months to do it is long enough haha.

putting my gauges on the backburner (thanks mom :| ) but i already have a pretty good deal lined up on them.

what do you mean it would "route up"? the Borla header bolts on to all the EJ heads. it should exit near the same spot as your stock pipe, only the turbo headers go up at the end.

not having one i cant give first hand info, but that is what i have come to believe after hearing about them so much.

Ok, so I may have had a rum or three by now, but I'm confused. So to elaborate:

The turbo exhaust from the subi's left hand side will wrap around the front of the motor to the right hand side, pick up the right hand bank of cylinder's exhaust then move up over the engine crossmember (the up pipe) to the turbo then back down (the dump pipe) to the exhaust under the right hand side foot well to the exhaust under the subi.

The NA version has two variations, which I'm not sure of when they changed - I think yours is the latter.

The early EJ series motors had the traditional Y pipe that the MY and L series subi's with the EA motors used, just a little larger for the EJ motor. As the name suggests it is a Y pipe, the right hand side being shorter than the left, all passing under the engine crossmember and moving back from the exhaust ports of the motor on both sides unlike the turbo exhaust (on the subi's left).

The later model is an equal length exhaust design - the left passes around the front of the motor and is joined by the right hand side at an equal length as the left from the exhaust port - lost you yet? Basically it's a reverse Y pipe to the front that then wraps around to the right hand side of the subi and passes under the engine crossmember to the exhaust under the subi.

I don't know what a borla style exhaust is, but what exactly are you trying to achieve with your exhaust? A note, larger size for better flow but still quite for better performance or what?

Sorry for the questions and explinations but you didn't say what you were trying to achieve with your exhaust changes, only that you were changing your exhaust...

Cheers

Bennie

i think i get what your saying El_Freddo, but you lost me pretty good trying to imagine how it goes, so here some Borla pics, Cobb use to make equal lengths for N/A and turbo but i dont think they make either anymore.

here is the Borla Unequal Length N/A header, the site says it fits every N/A Soob from 2004 to 1997, but i think pre-97' the exhaust exits on the other side (i geuss its the later exhaust El_Freddo is talking about), so technically it will still work with some custom exhaust routing. Not sure why its not compatible post-04' though.

here is the Borla Unequal header for turbo cars, says it fits all Soob turbos between 05' and 02', not sure what the differences in the years are for the turbo models.

the 2.5 factory manifold on the newer 2.5i's is an equal length design. they dump towards the rear of the car instead of coming out parallel with the front bumper (in other words, to run the borla/borla knockoff you need to run an older cat section or have an exhaust shop fab something up for you as the stock manifold has the flange in a different position)

it will work as a buddy of mine was running the borla with a high flow cat section designed for an older 2.5/2.2
