Well I'm not happy. :furious: :yell: :furious:
At almost 5 years, my OEM Battery died. I had to use my portable jump starter this morning & again when I finished work.

So my question is, what do I choose as a replacement & how much should I be looking at paying.
From what I've heard, the Optima Red or Yellow Top appear to be a good option.

What have other people used & what do they think of them.
Any advice is appreciated. :)

Thanks in advance.

I was feeling extravagant when I had to replace mine nearly 2 years ago and payed nearly $400 for an Optima Yellow Top. Probably not really worth the money and a good Exide or similar would do just as good a job.

Optima Red Top here, 8yrs 3mths old and feeling it this winter, noticed some corrosion around the positive terminal this afternoon, I'll clean it up tomoroow morning and we'll go from there.
Can't complain with the service this battery has given to me.

P.S. We get around don't we Mr Turbo :iconwink: :iconwink:

Thanks for the imput guys. :)
I ended up getting an Optima Yellow Top.
It was a little pricey  but then again it's only money

Whether or not it was worth the money I suppose only time will tell. :iconwink:

I recently had a new battery fitted by NRMA road service batteries (NSW area). They come to you, offer a National 3 year warranty and it's a fully sealed high cranking Exide unit (Relabbeled as NRMA) for $175.

I was told by Batteryworld when I was shopping around that this type of battery would be good for at least 5 years.

I hope you get the same service out of your Yellow Top as I have from my Red Top.

i had an optima battery. I must complain, i let it run dead on accident once. From then on it would not hold a charge. called optima they said thats normal you'll have to buy a new battery. So i switched to Odyssey batteries. have had it for five years still no problems.

I had an Odyssey once, never again. Damn expensive and failed within 6 months and was replaced under warranty. Of course I needed my car and couldn't wait for the warranty replacement so had another battery by the time it arrived so put it in storage inside the house.

Pulled it out a year later when my Land Rover needed a new battery and found it was leaking. Contacted them again, sent it to them as requested. Diagnosis: you've dropped it, not covered by warranty. Keep in mind back then the model I had had an external steel sleeve over everything but the top and part of the bottom of the battery that was painted bright orange. If it'd been dropped then wouldn't you expect the cover to be dented or at least scratched? Complete rubbish. It'd been on a shelf at room temperature inside the house since the day I recived it.

Pack of thieves, simple as that. Too many other good options around to bother using Odyssey again but I'll sure tell my story every chance I get.

I just replaced my Optima last Monday and after doing my research and losing the battle with the "Minister for War & Finance" I settled on a MF75D23L Supercharge Battery (2nd last under Japanese Automotive heading) from Battery Wise.

The fact that Optima's are now made in Mexico (read China) and the quality has suffered accordingly and the Odyssey at $550.00 was just a ridiculous price for a battery, $450.00 for the Optima was bad enough but at least it had a good reputation at the time I bought it.

Why do companies get a great reputation and then move offshore so to speak in the name of profit?

I hope you gave your Optima a fitting send-off considering the service it has given you :iconwink:
