Gotta delete the egr system off my 86 2door hatchback any guidance? Main concern is the egr/ exhaust manifold blocks ig you would call them. Anyone have a get delete guide?

"blocks ig"? I would've thought on older vehicles with less computers the EGR could just be blocked without any issues?

Not sure what they are called that’s the only only literature I can find on them. But they mount to the engine’s exhaust gas ports just like a manifold/header. On the back they have a pipe that returns exhaust gas directly back into the intake manifold. I’ve seen a lot of Subarus “on YouTube” where people have taken them off but they are held on with torque bits and I’d rather leave them for now. So I was planning on cutting the Pipe and Welding both end shut. Basically, I’m just wondering if anybody has any experience or tips with this specific egr system. Yeah it’s nice. I don’t have to do any programming or anything, but that would must be easier than trying to delete all the unnecessary crap that they put on these cars back in the 80s and 90s.

^^ Engineers design all this crap, usually for good reason.

Like the intake manifold, which is tuned for maximum laminar flow and optimal fuel/air mixing.

Unless you really know what you are doing, it's usually best to leave all this stuff alone.

It's not like the olden days where one could just rip bits off and replace them, as I did with a number of my cars (all of them?). That's been the case since about 1970 or so.

Yeah I’m sure the egr is super helpful with a lot of things thanks for being insulting instead of helpful @Ratbag

I'm actually trying to be helpful ...

Just one of the major design changes between the SG MkI and SG MkII was the exhaust system, and crankcase ventilation systems.

There is a whole thread about the similarities and differences between the EJ251 and EJ253 engines here.

I know that this doesn't directly apply to your engine, but the principles are the same.

@Subiedad86

There were absolutely no insults in Ratbag's reply and that is not the way we behave on this forum.

With that said, it is quite common to block off the EGR on vehicles and also add catch cans to to crankcase ventilation. This is all an attempt to stop soot and oil mist returning to the engine and eventually fouling the intake manifolds, especially in diesels. (Of course the legalities of doing this varies country by country but we don't need to discuss that here)

I think blocking it on a petrol engine is of little benefit.
