I am an owner of forester XT auto 2003 model and I hear a noise that I can not describe it so I ll attach some videos to you and please tell me if you will understand what is it!

I suppose that it is the automatic transmision but somebody told me that it might be the differentials(He was not sure if in the automatic forester are working when there is no gear)

when the car is rolling and I ll put the transmission at the position N and I ll hit the gas there is no noise!!!

Please advise me what it might be because here in Greece they do not know almost anything for automatics and I m kind of desperate!!!!

Could be either I suppose - tell me - have a look at the front diff dip stick and around it. Is there enough oil in the diff? Is there evidence of oil flowing from the dip stick hole? This may indicate overheating of the diff & diff oil which probably means there is something wrong with the diff.

there is enough oil and I ve changed all the fluids before 10000kilometers and the colour is not too dark like burned or something!!!

If it was the automatic shouldn't it sound different when it changes the gears???

I dont know! Monday I ll go to check it out at the main company in Athens but in Greece they dont understand from auto's!!!

I ll inform you for my problem asap!

I havent listened.

But if the noise matches engine RPM its the front pump. If the noise matches the vehical speed, and increases in volume with speed, its a differnetial.

My English are not that good!!!:)I dont know which do you mean thunder and which whining. I m talking about the noise that it sounds louder with the speed and only when I hit the gas (It reminds me the sound of my first pc game test drive 1 in amstrad 1512:lol::lol:)

I've assumed it's the whining, high pitched noise

Thart soun ds like a front diff noise, the input pinion gear maybe. If it is the diff itself, it can last a while like that, if it is the input pinion gear, I am not too sure.

Change the lube in the front dif, paying attention to see if any metal is in the oil.

nipper

today I ve went in Athens and they have told me that it is the transmission!!!! when he tooked it for a ride he also thought that it was the front diferential but when he lifted it and putted the earings to hear from where this sound comes he told me that the noise might be coming from the transmission! Unfortunatedly the service for the auto trans are in vacations and they open in 1st september!!!!

PS Paffoh where is the thrush man???
