We (Subaru Family) lost another of our kindred early this morning. 😭😭😭😭

My old 2003 XS Forester was T-Boned last night, the driver is Ok, couple of scratches and bruises.
I swapped my Forester for my daughters 2005 Mazda 6 Limited, I then traded the Mazda in for 2013 Honda CRV. My daughter later sold the Forester in 2016 to a friend of hers at her work for her son.

RIP brave Forester....
:(
The safety rating and a couple of crash photo's on a USA website was what made my move into Subaru's in 2000.
I had the Forester for 10 years. It was still running on OEM suspension in 2013 when I swapped it with my daughter, she put new front shocks on it in 2016 to pass roadworthy for sale, one shock absorber had a slight weep. It was a safe and extremely reliable car.

Nor me from my 17 y.o. one.
It uses no oil or water between services, and goes like the clappers ...

I would say that mine possibly doesn`t go like the clappers but more like a steady reliable refined old bus. More clapped out than clappers perhaps.......

Mine still pulls 6300 rpm in first VERY quickly. And can use second for taking off from a standstill on the flat - accidentally, of course. First and second are quite low gearing. Add the 1.196 low range, and they are really quite low geared. Will still pull over 80 kmh in second, low range though, which can be very useful. The torque curve running at 90% at full revs helps a lot.

At 6300 rpm, the engine doesn't so much run out of puff, as go into that pseudo valve bounce that the ECU induces. Random misfires on all cylinders.

Keeps the carbon moths away ...
