Hi all
just after some advice. I'm running Geo 215/65R16 AT's on the stock 16 x 6.5 steel rims on my SH Forester. Stock offset is 48mm

I'm looking at some Motegi MR139 rims at Bob Jane that seem pretty well priced. They are 16 x 7.5 and their offset is listed as 40mm.

Anyone got this combination on their car or have any suggestions if there are any issues? It's mainly for cosmetics but I'm not really across what offset differences do or where . I've looked online and 7.5 rim width seems to be within spec for that tyre size.

Cheers

@Mark Gibson

40mm offset means the rim will be moved 8mm outwards which should be OK.

Ah thanks! Appreciate it. I couldn't work out whether a lower offset from original meant in or out from the centre. Many thanks for clearing up. I assume that also means the 1" wider difference in rim width won't rub on full lock. The XT's have 17 "X 7" wheels and these Montego's are listed as 7.5"

Hmmm - you're moving out 8mm but the rim is an extra 12.7mm / 2 = 6.35mm so again should be OK

@Mark Gibson

Just remember that insurers do not like non-standard rims, as usually impossible to match if one is damaged.

Have you tried pricing a s/h set of 5 XT rims?

Just FWIW.

Thanks for that. I did think about XT rims but confess I really like the look of the Motegi rims. In terms of insurance I've just moved to Shannons for exactly the reason of off road mods etc, but I will double check with them about rims. Thanks for the tip

Motegi MR139 are pretty popular. They seem to be good quality, I haven't heard of anyone having a problem with them
+40 offset is perfectly fine. Most aftermarket wheels for Subarus are +15 to +40, and the width is very typical. If they have a 7" I'd choose that for a 215 tyre, but the 7.5" will be fine too

Thanks for the advice everyone here on the forum! . I've just ordered them and they should arrive next week. Getting them through Jax - same price just a bit more convenient location. There isn't a 7" but the vehicle / tyre match simulator thingy for both Jax and Bob Jane lists the 16 x 7.5 as fine for the car. I'll post a pic when I get them fitted. Next up a SLO lift kit from you Matt!

I had 16 x 7,5 rims with 215 70 16 tires and didn't really like the combo for off road because the rims were easily damaged. But for street driving, it was ok.

Yeah, really happy. Genuinely feels lighter and more "planted" on the road. Think this style really suits Subies too
