Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum.
My goal in posting is to have a good recovery point for the impreza.
I've started lifting my GG and I can't stop thinking about recovery points. This is for the rear, but I also want to design one for the front.

FYI, I have no mechanical background so it might take me a year to even create this physically. And I would need your help so I could think about the design more carefully before even dipping to crafting it.

This is supposed to be mounted under the frame, inside the frame and at the crash bar mounting point. Drilling may be required for added bolts.

Both photos are from 2nd gen impreza 2002-2007. Also the center piece is redundant to me, it just so happen the photos have the markings that I need].

This is the visual construction for the Left hand side rear. [reverse the design for Right hand side]These are the design pieces. Total of 3. The 3rd should have a hollow area with roughly the same size as the inner frame or the girth of the 2nd piece, or preferably designed for both.

Piece 1+ 2

For stronger and balanced force distribution, its probably beneficial to have a U shape or double pipe welded between the left and right recovery point.
I am thinking, just bolting the 3 external sides of the plate together. Also bolting together the hanging piece 2 and piece 3
This can probably be a base for a rear bullbar. I noticed from online pictures as well that SG foresters have a similar rear end and mounting areas.

My questions would be:
1) Where did you mount on the body your recovery points? an SF rear mounting can be helpful to me.
2) What material would be best to use? The impreza is probably a little over 3000lbs. Can aluminum be used?
3) Is there a specific type of bolt material used for recovery points?
4) What can be a flaw to this design?
5) If you tried to make this in a physical form, can you please post a photo in this thread? [thank you!]

Cheers!

Were towbars an option for the Imprezza? Generally using a recovery hitch on a towbar (never use the towball itself) is the better option, and they normally mount into the same channels you are

I've always used tie down points and a distribution strap at the front and the tow hitch at the rear. I've never heard of a tie down point breaking in a recovery; maybe others have or it could just be one of those self-propagating rumours ;)

Good to hear that they are safe. I'm guessing they break due to the weight of 4WDs or the send to the moon snatch recovery. LOL.

how many mm thickness flat steel would you recommend for a recovery point?

They would be strong enough points for recovery and liftint car if you wish.. just connect 2 short tubes with one and they super strong...you can tow from those too
