Hello everyone i have a 2006 xt forester and recently I have been having problems starting car after work, It starts and runs when i go to work at 5:45 in the morning but i am having issues in the afternoon just after 4pm. It often starts for a second or two then stops then nothing for a few tries. I have obd2 sender and torque have looked for fault codes and nothing is coming up. Once it starts I am having no issues drives and runs well. I am thinking the fuel pump may be the issue. From living up north I know when the fuel bowsers get to hot they have problems pumping 98oct so thinking pump being on last legs may be doing the same as car sits in the sun all day and is very hot when I get in. So bit about car. It has 320000 on clock. has a secondary air pump delete and has been done for years three inch exhaust snorkel k&n in box filter.
Thanks in advance

Could well be fuel pump if it still the original one. Sitting all day in hot sun possibly may cause a bit of vapour lock. Although not too common with FI motors.
I had a similar problem when I lived in Brisbane with erratic engine stopping for no obvious reason, very disconcerting when in freeway traffic!!! At that point my MY03 had done about 250000 kms.
This persisted for a couple of years until it was tracked to a faulty, chinese made, fuel pump installed by a (nameless) mechanic who lost my custom.
No problems since and now at 373000 kms.

Hi ateday thanks it would be factory one. Will get a walbro pump and replace it. Lucky enough once its running its fine. Took about 20min at a landscaping place one day thought i was going to have to leave it there lol.

Check the connectors on the fuel pump first. There is a fairly common problem where the earth (?) overheats and burns. (I keep reminding myself to check mine!)

Thanks everyone can get a plug and play walbro off eBay for $200. Went to repco and got what there computer said was suppose to be for my car. Was a borsch was wrong and it was 200 too. Got money back. I will check what you gyes recommend though thankyou

Walbro`s are not cheap.......
Better than sitting in your car stuck somewhere. And having a flat bed tow you gone would probably cost more, so in my book they’re not expensive!

Plus if you look at a factory replacement you’d probably have change left over with a walbro pump ;)

Cheers

Hi all update on the problem. Well its fixed. As I said I was going to do. I got a new walbro to fit factory fittings and filter. Was quite an easy job filter and suction bag where filthy. A nice dark muddy brown. There was no signs off overheating or wear of wiring. I will admit I hadn't done the fuel filter when it should of been done. Starts easier seems to be running better think it will get better as computer learns its been replaced. Thanks all

Well it was not fixed lol. after replacing filter pump and relay i was occasionally getting the p0230 code but it wasn't stopping or having any issues till after giving it a good squirt it stopped and would not start again. Luckily i was just around the corner from home and pushed it home. After more research found out the fuel pump control unit may be the problem so looked at it and found out it was negative switch and wasn't earthing pulled it out and unplugged replugged and got a faint circuit with test light. Got another fuel pump control unit plugged it in and hey presto its alive again. I couldn't get a fuel pump control unit with the same part number but got one for a ej255 that is the same motor even had sg9 on it. Had a different bracket so just swapped that out not shore if part number got superseded or different for bracket, seems to be working well ill give it a few weeks and see how it goes and give an update later. The part numbers where for one in car 22750AA010 one i replaced with 22648AA011
