My 2014 Outback comes with a headunit with GPS. I realised from my previous trip to Tasmania the GPS somehow is connected to the clock as I saw the clock adjusted the time zone automatically. Unfortunately it costs roughly $200 for each map update and thus I have been thinking replacing the factory unit with one that at least supports Android Auto (as I am using Android phone) so I can use the maps on my phone. Just wondering has anyone have experience replacing the factory headunit and keeping the "auto adjust" clock function?

Is the auto adjust important to you ?
If not just grab a new head unit and enjoy.

Just a good feature that want to keep and don't want to break anything by not knowing it; but good point.

If you get a Android Auto/CarPlay headunit, they sync the time from your phone (as usually the headunit just acts like a secondary display of your phone, rather then processing on the headunit)

Good to know, thank you. And hopefully, or need to find a way, to sync to that of the cabin clock.
