As it says in the topic - my mate & the founder of this forum down here in Australia, Tony Watkins passed away in April this year after a very long battle with Melanoma

Well that sucks. The great pain of growing old is having your friends and family die on you.

Sad news.

Comes to us all, however.

Nasty bloody things, melanomas ...

I never met Tony but had some good chats in the forum in the early days about music etc. I'm sad to hear that he's gone.

Les, thanks for letting us know. I had not been in contact with Tony for a few years.

For those that don't know. Tony and I met on another forum before going out for a day trip near Walhalla. It was after this that Tony said to me he would start his own forum for like minded Subaru owners. A few months later (early 2004) Offroadsubarus.com was born.

A number of us participated in annual anniversary trips for a few years, before the site changed hands.

A few names from the past, lets see if any of you (Australians) are still here.

Les - Outasight
David - Dicknose
Shane - Zed
Richard - Subaruby
Andrew - Drew
Greg - Djulpan
Shaun - Prawn
Raoul - RaoulW

This is a list from the 2nd anniversary trip (2006) from Eldorado, across Mt Hotham, and out to Jokers Camp near the Blue Duck Inn, then home via Dargo.

We enjoyed many trips with Tony that will never be forgotten.

Thanks to Tony for starting this forum, and to all of you who keep this forum running today

For those interested, and for those who met and remember Tony, I have just re-read the post he started, but never finished. Lots of memories.

Check out the ORS.com #1 thread. (sorry I don't know how to link it)

Hi all. Thanks to the mods who emailed me this morning with a 'what you've missed" message: I found out this very sad news. I knew Tony was crook, and was keeping up with his long battle via facebook.

My sincere condolences to all who knew him: he was such a great bloke. Friendly, outgoing, helpful and a great sense of humour. Will raise a glass to the fella this evening. One of the true good guys. Rest in peace old mate.

Sorry to hear the news. I never met Tony nor knew that he was the forum founder, he must’ve been one of those people that was grounded and humble.

One thing is for sure, like a funeral, Tony’s passing brought people back together - there’s quite a few old members who posted above that I haven’t seen on the forum in a while. It’s good to see you all again ;)

RIP Tony.

Regards

Bennie

I was saddened to hear this news. He was very supportive of the members. I know personally he was supportive of my photographic endeavors as that was something we had in common besides subbies.
