So I had some fun today and installed a GME XRS radio in my SJ.
Here are the broad brush strokes of what I did & how I did it.
Power
Just tapped a fuse and grounded near the fuse panel.
Chassis mount
Tucked up above the glove box. It was a tight fit so I used velco tape to hold it in place.
Antenna Mount
I used a GME right angle and screwed it to the inside of the back of the LHS roof rail.
For around town I'll keep a little cheap flexible whip on it for convenience.
Antenna cable routing
I took the cable back to the rear hatch, carefully split the LHS rubber boot, and threaded it into the headliner. From there I took a direct route towards the LHS a pillar via the rear and front passenger doors, being careful not to interfere or foul the airbags along the way.
Speaker / Mic
I mounted a passthrough on the LHS centre console switch blank and connected the speaker Mic unit to that. Nice and central while I'm using it, and easy and clean to remove when I'm not.
Finished product
Overall a pretty fun little mod.
I've got pics of all of the but I get file too big errors as I try and upload them.
