Will a SJ (2017) 2.5i benefit from a limited slip differential or will VDC provide the same capability? I have a base model 2.5i without X-mode. I know to turn traction control off when off-road but don't know if VDC in SJ's will keep the tires from spinning in conditions that a LSD would. I'm not interested in a lunch box/torque locker due to experience with one in a 2WD pickup (Ute) truck on wet pavement and when applying power on tight turns on pavement (it locked up causing wheel hopping).

Vdc no questions better then lsd, is it better then locker, maybe not, but in situations can work very well. Lsd does nothing when wheel in air, vdc works right when wheel goes into air.
