Hello all. Hopefully someone here can answer my question. I have an SG Forester and I'm planning to get this lifted as high as I can to get max ground clearance. I'm thinking of maybe doing a 4 inch lift with coil overs that would give another inch or two. My question is...is there a place that offers longer axles for this fozzy? Or can I use an axle from another vehicle, like from a 90s 4Runner or similar sized vehicle?

Why you need longer axle? You mean cv axle here? You dont need them longer.
If you think of long travel shocks with suspension that will need a lot other mods then mostly custom.

It’s not the length of the axles that will be the limit of how high you can lift.
It will be the angle of the Constant Velocity (CV) joints.

What JonB said !

You can't go above 2" front and 2,5" rear lift without a body lift, its as simple as that !

I dunno, if you were able to 'push' the suspension out, longer axles would be useful.
How hard it would be to push the suspension out is another matter... custom control arms, all that kind of jazz..
You'd end up with a beast, something like this.

I thought putting a longer axle will give me less strain on the CV joints. I was just thinking off my head. I tried researching this online but I can't find any useful information.

Would any of you guys know where I can acquire the body lifts? I tried googling it but nothing is coming up.

@Mister Fox - welcome!

As Ben said, wider track will require longer drive shafts and could offer more suspension articulation than standard, this could be setup to have more compression travel than droop to gain more ground clearance under the vehicle.

This would mean all new control arms and other components for the suspension front and rear. New spring rates would need to be worked out for the levering effect for the rear unless the spring/strut lower mount is at the hub.

You would have mega wide track width. Not ideal for a number of reasons. Being that you’re state side you could probably get away with it easy enough.

Or you could fit some custom made portal hubs like some crazy Russians did some time ago. Again not ideal if highway cruising (or attempting to in this case), but would be awesome off-road.

Otherwise a monster lift from SLO would be best. Having an auto will help with the larger sized tyres you can run with this setup, so that’s in your favour at least.

Cheers

Thanks for the info. Almost everything underneath this rig will be replaced (in due time). Still a work in progress after all.

None of my business I know.

But, if you’re doing that much work, you may want to consider if you’re starting with the right platform.

if it’s what you want to do, power to you, keep us posted, it sounds like a hell of a project.

@JonB
This is what I want to do. I'm going to turn this little puppy into a monster. I'm going to run circles around my Jeep and Tacoma buddies till their jaws hit the boulders in Moab.

Monster without proper low gear, well at leat it will be fast off road then.
If so i would just put there long travel shocks ,custom arms for better flex, stronger axles, locker. Basicaly everything new custom under car, then it will be monster

@scalman That's the plan. This is still a work in progress. The gearing is the problem. But I'm planning to tackle that later on.
