Magnetic base mounts?

Ben, maybe a decent number plate or nudge bar light mount would be better, and legal ... ?

I might bumper mount a 20"bar between the lights, but half the problem is it's so low, which is why I'm trying to work out a way of doing non destructive roof mounting.
and legal
Magnetic mounts aren't legal? but then... I'm prepared to take the risk and it's not like they would be on the roof all the time, ruins the drag coefficient ;)

Not the mounts, per se, but using a roof mounted light on any public road (or any public track, which is a public road by definition).

Meh. State dependent. Legal in QLD.

Fair enough. Just be sure about it - coppers don't need much by way of provocation to get all antsy IME.

Even though I've won mostly, the experience of fighting the state is very destructive.

My last fight with the federal government (Cretinlink) was over a period from 2012 to 2019, took 5.5 years of my life. Took it to the AAT. Won outright - 100% 'victory', totally Cretinlink errors. What a cost to us ... :( .

Cretinlink make the Gestapo look like social workers when they decide to target you.

The wiring will be legal, connected to high beam etc, so they won't be able to get me on that. Unfortunately (?!) front of the SVX is almost low enough to fit under the front bar of the forester, so putting a heap more light there is a bit wasted, even if/when I lift it the legal amount.

Plus it would look awesome with this ultra low profile lightbar I'm looking at getting.

Lightbars are like bombs - indiscriminate. So would probably light up the whole countryside, regardless of placement height. Just a thought.

absolutely! I'm not a huge fan as you may know...
But.. in certain situations, they suit the need. could hardly mount a Super Oscar or two on the SVX. Even Oscars would look redonkulous.

The lower to the ground, the less of the ground you see in my opinion (especially with dips and bumps, curvature of the earth and so on!)

Allways thought of magnetic mounts as temporary solution you keep lights in car and put them just in bush when you need not on road.

temporary solution
(y) I'd put it on the car when I was driving in the country at night, unless it wasn't noisy in which case I'd consider a more permanent solution.

From what I've read, all lightbars are noisy on the open road.

Roof mounted would be like a roof rack, I would imagine.
I've got Whispbars on the forester. Best bar ever, hardly any noise at all.
Had Rola on the missus's old work car. Bloody horrible noise.

i think so if roof rack is noisy then those on roof rack or without should be too, at least front facing one, though if you have wind deflector and kinda put it like behind it in such way it could then fold down when needed but be hidden under deflector when driving. something like that. or deflector itself could fold back and open led bar into view. again i never saw that style anywhere and i dont know why , its no brainer to do that isnt it ? like mount top wind deflector on hinges and bolt it down in bottom of roof rack frame, at least on my style it would work. then remove bolts flip it over and here it is led bar.

Has anyone used these (or similar) or seen them in use?

Thinking of something like this for the SVX, because it needs more light than it's got and I really don't want to drill holes in the roof.
It's also illegal here to mount those on the highway but I like the magnetic mounts idea because I can just pull them out when I am off-road.

We have OEM aero bars on both ours, which are fine. Putting a roof basket on is another thing altogether!
Yes. I also have the Prorack Whispbar and it's angel quiet. Now I have the Rhino RPBS roof tray and I have to remove it when I am not using it. I am trying to get a solution like putting a wind deflector there but the crosswinds will still create some noise but not that much and the deflector will remove the benefits of having such a quiet pair of crossbars.
