Unfortunately my son's family "soccer mum car" has had an internal hemorrhage; sounds like a shot crank bearing / rod knock so we're checking for supply of a remanufactured motor.

For those of you unfamiliar with the 2012 S it is turboed, unlike later model S, and with a larger turbo and different auto transmission to the XT. From Wikipedia: "S-Edition: - turbocharged 2.5 L flat-4 193 kW (259 hp) 347 Nm (256 ft-lbf). The S-Edition has a 5 speed Automatic Transmission."

I am well-aware of alldrivesubaroo and have had very good experiences with them years ago. But are there other quality engine rebuilders around? The car is currently in Goulburn so a supplier in Sydney or Canberra area would be good.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Are you looking to get a new short block and swap all the bits over, or just get a re-manufactured one already built?

Not that I know anyone that can help, just interested :)

All options are open atm but more likely one already built because paying someone to build the top end may not be worth it.

TechWorx for Canberra, or AllDriveSubaroo, Ichibahn, RumbleShack, SubieDoctor are the sydney based specialists

One would hope that they do trade ins if the it's only the crankcase(?) that's knackered of his motor.

@Ben Up North I'm thinking they may hold onto the buggered engine as a fix-up project.

Surely the parts would be worth something, otherwise you'd be better off putting the bits on gumtree! turbo, intercooler all that stuff, heads if they're alright.

Maybe he could put into one of his L series paddock bashers
Well... there's a Brumby in South Australia that's got an EG33 in it, so anything's doable. :)
(I wonder if it is still for sale)

So, being replaced with Alldrivesubaroo semi-closed ej257 level 3 long motor + cosworth pistons, forged rods, 13mm head studs so should be indestructible. Keeping the replaced motor as you get just $450 for it; will rebuild later with a ej257 short block from subaru with all the STI revisions.

(He spoke to Techworkz but wasn't happy with that communication and they get their engines from Alldrivesubaroo anyway.)

The EJ257 and EJ255 use the exact same case halves FYI, Pretty sure the crank is the same. It may have forged rods, but the pistons are not forged, and only have a slightly different compression ratio.
