Should never have driven onto the claypan in the first place, not without checking it out. My basic rule with claypans is if you can see water anywhere, don't bother trying it. I've seen massive 4 x4 tractors bogged in that for days.
 
On the other side of the coin, claypans are massive fun when they have dried out enough. 😁
 
that car is very capable for sure but more heavier and if tires have full psi it wont do good on any sand . i got stuck couple times in normal sand not even that hard as in pic , problem is when you stop , until you move all works , if you stop and then trying to move thats it you done.
as much as i like subaru i would do opposite , would bought grand sherokee instead outback, but that mpg would just made me driving far less.
 
That fella was lucky on many fronts. I can see where a steak is a must but I reckon I’d be headed to emergency before a meal that might be my last!

With 2.4L of water, he was very lucky to survive on that and the dirty puddles.
