Hi All!

First time Subi/OB owner here! Im looking for some adventures to get into with this 02. Are there any unpaved roads, or trails in or near Maryland that are legal to be on?

:welcome: , Walt.

Any decent paper map should tell you. Touring guide or fold up.

@02WaltWhite Hi!
Unfortunately all I know about Maryland is something to do with chicken, which makes me pretty old in Australian terms..
Welcome!

Hey, @02WaltWhite ! Welcome from over in DC!

I appreciate that you have the 5MT in your Outback. :D

What part of MD are you in? I remember there were a few ORS members from Montgomery County and Baltimore a number of years ago. AFAIR, best off-roading is over in West Virginia. Unless, of course, you want to deflate tires and go wheeling on the Delmarva beaches, which is fun too.

My off-roading is mostly a means to an end. Access to ski areas, trail heads (hiking or biking), camping spots. Getting out in fresh snow, before the city clears the roads. Practical stuff, nothing hardcore.

@Ben Up North Just realized you have an SVX! Is there a thread where you tell us more about it? I've been toying with the idea of picking up an SVX as a sporty collector's car. But right now, my priority is getting the 2012 Outback kitted out to my liking, including possibly an EJ255 (in my dreams). ;)

Is it Maryland, USA or Maryland, NSW?

I appreciate it too. Manuals are getting pretty rare now, even in developing countries, where people not prefer auto due to traffic congestion. Sadly, many manufacturers are phasing the manuals out because they can't implement AEB in cars that have such transmission.

Here, prices of manual vehicles are starting to get over-inflated. With Subarus here, it can be 2.5x cheaper to get an auto and covert it to manual than buy a factory manual.

I was also a part of the save the manuals movement. I was one of the first 500 to receive the save the manuals sticker from Car and Driver when I converted my 1996 Toyota Scepter SXV15 to manual and showed it to the editors. Sample photo of sticker below:

Maryland, NSW?
There's a Marlyand NSW? Well there you go, I've learned something today. The older I get the more I realise how little of my own country I've seen. And I reckon I've seen a fair chunk more than the average Aussie
(edit:but probably not more than many other Aussie ORSers..)
