I used to check the performance of halogen headlights of my previous vehicles and found that voltage drop is around 0.8V to 1.2V. Now I checked my high beam voltage drop and found that it was only at 0.2V! For me, it's a low drop because with my Toyotas, even later models, Nissan and Isuzus, have much higher high beam voltage drop numbers. Some newer model vehicles are reporting drops of more than 0.5V. If such voltage drop is low across all Subaru models, it may mean that they are adequately wired in that department.

What drop do you guys get for the high beams only? All our Subarus have HID low beams so we can't really compain with their light output and voltage drop is irrelevant. Cheers.

EDIT: With such low voltage drop, I do not need to do the relay upgrade like I used to with other vehicles. I can just put a higher performance bulb or do the HIR1 mod.

My H4 bulbs are halogen; single bulb for high / low beam

No idea as I have not measured it ;-)

Haha. It's not really something that one would do out of urgency . I even planned on checking my high beam voltage drop last month but only did so yesterday.

I am just impressed as, usually, manufacturers skimp on wiring, hence the voltage drop on many vehicles, even with much more modern ones. When one of my brothers saw the wires when I connected my trailer hitch, he commented that the cabling in the vehicle is of very, very, very high quality.

For reference, here is one of the best ways to get voltage drop and is from Daniel Stern's website:

When I get to have the mood, I will check the high beam voltage drop in the other vehicles. Cheers.
