i give up on this stuff. I rounded a nut on the tail shaft and now i cant get the diff out. I already popped the axles, theyre not fully off but i they arent flush against the diff, How do i make sure the axles are in properly?

Also if youre in VIC would appreciate it if someone could help me out with the installation, i will compensate you for your efforts as well

Well if i can find someone Melbourne area willing to help me out ill be so appreciative because thats the 2Nd time ive been under there now for the same reason. Maybe this foz not meant for water yet

It has been done without removing the rear diff.

Its nigh impossible to get to that area without doing so. I have tried using a crowbar to push the diff with the tail shaft forwards so it would slip out of the mounts but i would've broken something if i keep going

So what am i going to doing about the nut on the tailshaft? What is a method of removal for the future? Im going to ask some people at the Subaru 4WD club in VIC when i meet with them as well

I'm in Bayside, Melbourne.

I've also got a pretty comprehensive set of high quality tools that might just help with recalcitrant nuts. However, it might be an oxy-spanner job :(.

While I cannot be much physical help due to ill health, I am happy to provide what help and advice I can.

I've often found that a (very) high quality ring or socket spanner can be hammered onto the recalcitrant nut, allowing purchase. Then tapping while turning will often succeed. Not always, but often.

I also have various locking grippies that can be handy in these situations.

@Ser_Egg I also have a decent set of chassis stands, and a bull bag jack, which could be useful.

Maybe i could pop around to your place one day and i can do all labour and you might able to guide me and teach me something about this car???

I find "Metrinch" spanners are great for rounded nuts. I have a set of these which has served me very well over the years:

Bunnings?

also the nuts are pretty much seized or rusted on i reckon. I think 2 or 3 are out of 4 are good to get off but this one of them is just locked on really good. Ive used so much wd40 but obviously its not enough

After the 23rd June be OK?

I might not be able to teach you much, but I've worked on lots of vehicles in my long life, so I may be of some help.

Where are you in Melbourne?

Unfortunately it will have to be a weekend, As i qprk during the week

I live in Sunbury but i am willing to travel to places

@Ser_Egg A weekend is fine. It's a flaming long way here though! Might be cheaper and easier to get any decent mechanic locally to have a gander at it for you. They will also have an oxy-acetylene torch (or oxy-MAP gas) kit to heat and loosen if required.

Better be careful with that. too much qrking and no play is no good at all!
Wise words

yeah and probably charge me an arm and a leg for it as well. I cant imagine that would install the breather for me as well as its not a factory thing for them. In other words i dont know if mechanics do modifications or not haha

I understand. Good "real" mechanics are hard to find.

We have had one for the last 20+ years, but he is just near us, and closed at the weekend.
