OK I know this has been around the block a few times, but I am tearing my hair out.

Note 2014 petrol NA subaru XV manual.

I am trying to wire in my spotlights to come on with the highbeam. OK so far so ordinary.

I found the earth switching circuit in the Subie forum. Again all good.
When I went to use the earth side of the high beam to use as the earth for the override switch, it does not switch earth. The power side is switched and the earth is constant.
Please someone tell me the 2014 manual XV petrol ISN'T earth switched highbeam....before I go anyfurthur and go stark raving mad.

Not sure if it's the same, but on my 2004 Forester, I'm 95% sure I ended up vamping off the low beam wire to get it to work.
Using a lightforce loom, with -ive setup on it. 'Theory' being that when there was no power to the headlights they were off, but powering off the low beam (and thus powering up the high beam) would then switch the spotties on.
Doesn't make sense to me either. Still don't understand it.

Been there, done this ... arrrgh

Go to last page and work your way back to my solution. IIRC it is 1 or 2 pages from the end. Might be a link back on the last page.

Here's my solution: Apparently +ively switched.
Well In the tradition of bodge as an art form, I tapped the low beam and set up the loom for positive switch.

Success! although I'm not sure why...

Dash switch on or off when headlights are off: Spotties off.
Dash switch on headlights on low beam: Spotties off
Dash switch on headlights on high beam: Spotties On. Yay!

Jetnikoff OK I followed that circuit to a point ( functionally the same) but on my XV found a great switched points in the fuse box to supply both spotlight power and switched positive headlight power. Simplified the wiring significently. One wire to the Spot from the relay and earth down at the spot. One wire from the fuse box using a piggyback into the switched +ve to the left headlight for the relay switching, one, using an unused diesel fuse that is live to power the spot then only one wire to the highbeam headlight ground ( it would have been nice to find a closer and more accessible headlight ground wire) to the inside. and back.
BTW there is no fuse in the botton of the spot power jumper. It was an empty but live fuse for the diesel and hasn't chucked any errors.

Well done. BTW I found my pair of driving lights down that low on my '97 Outback would throw too many shadows on undulating road surfaces. It got written off before I got to change them.
