As reported by @hhouston6 a piece of wood punctured the sidewall on the small-big-lap-wa-cape-leveque-gibb-river-road trip report.

How's this - nearly punctured the spare on the Triton which is mounted underneath!

Bugger! Never even occurred to me that this could happen.

A few years ago there was a Facebook post of a guy who had a branch punch through the floor of his 4wd, through his leg & into his shoulder. He survived after lengthy surgeries

Ouch! I do recall that incident.

Almost anything that can happen, will happen ... eventually.

One simply cannot guard one's self against the one in a million/one in a billion chance. That way lies madness!

Oooh! I can only imagine the pain and annoyance. That's just four-wheel driving to the extreme!

When I was a teenager (many many years ago now 😂) in Riverina NSW, a family friend who lived about 150m away owned an EK Holden Special.
He was driving down the highway at 60 mph when the tailshaft speared through the back floor - back seat and out through the boot lid. The front of the tail shaft had let go and dug into the bitumen road, he was one very lucky man.

Phew! Lucky indeed.

The funniest, and scariest, thing I ever saw involving a piece of timber was at my primary school when a night cart crashed through the school fence. It careered across the school yard and into the neighbouring property fences where a horizontal rail went straight through the passenger side windscreen and out the back of the cab. I bet that driver had pants full of "chocolate" as well as his truck! Also very lucky no one was hurt.

One of station managers hit a roo in the station ute (Falcon). The gearbox ended up in the tray ... he was going at highway speeds on the road out of Cunnamulla.
