Hey all,

I have a forester SG Gen 1 and am wondering how difficult it would be to fit a Gen2 subxtreme bull bar to it?Are the mounts between the two the same?

Cheers

It's easy, mounts are the same, you just need a 10mm spacer between the body and the mount.

You will also need to relocate your washer bottle (if you have a NA, you can use a Pre face lift SG Washer bottle)

Beauty, yeah I have an N/A 03. Why does the washer bottle need to relocate? It’s up the back passenger side of the engine bay for me.

thanks for the info!

Hmmm. I've seen people here put an SG series 1 bar on a series 2, but never seen any the other way around.

I have a series 2 SG with a SubaXtreme roo bar on it, and it wasn't straightforward even so.
Make sure that you get the packing right between the bar shell and the bar bracket that bolts onto the front of the car chassis. It cannot be pulled up tight, even with the six mighty big bolts used for fixing due to the strength of the bar mounting plates (about 1/2" alloy) and the mounting plates on the bar bracket (about 10mm steel).

Mine has to come off again to remedy this.

Maybe @Red XS could comment here?

Oops, I read it the wrong way around.

Subaxtreme Early SG bar on a Late SG = OK (This is what I have on my XT)
Subaxtreme Late SG Bar (Pre 2019) on a Early SG = Bad
Subaxtreme Late SG Bar (2019+) on a Early SG = Possible - No one has done it, but you might just need some custom infills between the bar and the grille

Have you ever seen anyone do a pre 2019 bar on a early SG? I have the option to get a gen 2 SG bar, but I don’t wanna spend the cash if it’s a waste of time. Happy to get my hands dirty with it though

I'm not sure why "Pre 2019" and "2019+" are being quoted in association with "SG" - is it meant to be "2009" when the SG series ended?

I was just sticking to the way squires was using.
To be clear I have a SG Gen 1 or “prefacelift” 03 to 05 and the bar is designed for SG Gen 2 or “facelift” 06-09

The bolt holes line up on both SG's. The Later SG models have a slightly longer nose. Hence you need a spacer to fit early SG bullbar on a late SG. But you are going the other way. Now there are two different styles of Subaxtreme SG series 2 bullbars. I would think (but can't gaurentee) that the new style (like in Squires Avatar picture) would fit an early SG with minor work. The bullbar would stick out slightly more being designed for a longer car. And I don't know how well the bullbar would fit up against the fended. You'd likely need to trim the stock bumper to fill in the gap. The earlier model of the series 2 SG bullbars has a lot more shaping to fit the sg2 body style. I can't imagine this fitting an early SG. You'd have more luck with a newer bullbar then the older sg series 2 bullbar in the second picture.

Newer style of series 2 bullbar.

Older style.

Both made for the same year Foresters.

Kevin, 2019 is the year that Subaxtreme Redesigned the Late SG bullbar from the molded one, to the one that is similar to the Early SG.

In short, if it's the older molded style bar, it won't fit a 02-05 (Early) SG. If it's the later style one (Like Luc's white XT posted above) it theoretically will fit, but you will need to fill in the gaps between the headlights and bar yourself
