Do yall know of any bolt on sg forester specific shocks aside from kyb excelg and pedders?

I believe Subaru sell them 😁

I wouldn't touch Pedders after having bad experiences on 2 vehicles

The particular Pedders shocks I used are excellent. Replaced the shagged SLS on the rear of my 2006 SG. Variable rate, heavy duty (NOT their full heavy duty ones). Excellent handling and ride. No sag when fully loaded plus trailer.

Monroe, Sachs, Bilstein and many cheap brands.

if KYBS are tested and they work best on subarus and for long time why then looks for something else ?

How much money do you have to spend ?

Hi Kevin!

Why do you have a bad experiences? What model vehicles?

I ask this because i want to change my rear SLS with a set of Pedders (the standard kit).

@Ratbag: do you have asked at the pedders sales man also for this standard kit or only for the variable rate kit?

i would go with KYBs shocks but springs your can chose then some other but i would go KYB too. but if you want harder ride and more lift then some harder springs could be put on KYB shocks.
some people used Pedders here localy too . not sure how they went. but salt got that shock paint fast away though... they kinda sucks

G'day eldi

On my Subaru Pedders installed springs and struts which were supposed to level the rear when loaded but instead the rear finished up lower than the front and Pedders at Blacktown covered it up with lies.

Long story so here is the abbreviated version. I put my Mitsubishi Triton (L200) into a workshop to make repairs to the suspension and without my knowledge or approval the car was sent to the same Pedders workshop and they replaced parts that were not damaged. I then went on a trip across Australia and when things got rough I wondered why the car was not handling it very well; when hitting a series of bumps the front of the vehicle would start bouncing as if totally uncontrolled by the struts and with each bump it would bounce higher. I later discovered what had happened and had all the Pedders parts removed and suspension returned to it's original "Ultimate Suspension" setup.

I think I may have also had an issue with them years ago on my Range Rover as well but cannot remember the details.

I can recommend KYB

Good to know guys!!
Thank you so much!

But what is the exact model of KYB?Excel-G?

Thank you Kevin 😁

 i'm very confused!!!
@jf1sf5 i've seen your post also on 4x4forum and is soo amazing your setup but for me is too much!
@Ratbag i don't have a trail and i don't think to have the need to a variable rate but your Pedders i think are so fantastics!!
@ABFoz i'm in Italy and rockauto USA, the shipment cost is too expensive....

But the show must go on and these are my needs:
- 80% city route
- 20% soft offroad with or without family
- stand up the donkey of mr. forry 15/20mm max than original.

I think that rear kyb struts are the best for my needs but what springs?kyb springs or others?kings spring maybe, but in USA :cry::cry:
The other possibility is a standard pedders kit struts with springs.

i need help!!!please!!!:eek::oops:o_O
thank you all!

sorry ;P

I'm not trying to make you build the same Forester as mine ! I'm just giving you an advice of what shocks I would install if I had your needs 😉

Yeeess jf1sf5..of course :bananatoast: ;)

But if i've understood is possible to install the Outback KYB shocks on SG5? 🧐🤔

Measured Forester SG SLS rear Tokico struts and Outback BG rear KYB struts.

Distance from center of lower bolt to lower spring perch where the tire would rub : SG = 325mm / BG = 335mm

Shaft length and diameter : SG = 225mm/22mm / BG = 235mm/25mm

Thanks @jf1sf5

eldi, I find the handling and comfort of my SG to be excellent. I haven't towed my trailer anywhere in the last 5-6 years. The variable rate applies equally to roll and bounce characteristics without the trailer.

I would recommend these struts for any normal use, without reservation.
