Hey guys, i am thinking about picking up some 15x7 +15 offset Method wheels for my na 2004 Sg forester, and need some help with tire size choice.

All my tire research was based around oem 16" wheels, and seems 215/70/16 was the biggest tire poddible to fit, most going with 215/65/16 to play it safe. No 225 due to oem wheel offset.

Now that ive decided on 15" wheels, with +15 offset, im a little unsure on tire size.

Im pretty sure ive read some people running running 215/75/15 (or 215/70/15?) tires on an Sg Forester, and hoping i can use a 225/70/15 or 225/75/15.

Will 225/70/15 or 225/75/15 a/t fit my 04 Sg Forester with 15x7 +15 offset Method wheels?
Id like the tallest a/t i can fit without touching the spring perch on the strut, and prefer wider than 215 as i like to drive on deep soft beach sand.

What are my options?

Sg Foz 15" a/t tire choice

You have many options mate
But I’d like to recommend G015’s
as they are the best (imo) onroad to Offroad negotiation tires available.

215/75 15 is the most common 15" tire because it clears the lower spring perch without rubbing and doesn't need any other modification on an SG.

225/70 15 should clear everything too but won't be better on soft sand, you still will have to deflate around 18psi to drive on soft sand.

Yeah, i have stock size (215/60/16) Yoko Geo a/t on right now, but looking to go a little more offroad worthy and less concerned about on road mannors

But mostly looking for sizes that will fit, and less which brand tire to run.

Just not as up to date on 15" sizes that will work as i am 16" sizes that work.

Would the +15 offset allow me to use 225 or even 235 tires that i couldnt use with stock +48 offset wheels?

Whats the tallest 15" i can use on my 04 Sg foz with 04 Sg struts?

I have 215/70 R15 on my SG. Could go bigger but this size fits in the spare wheel compartment without any mods and fully inflated.

I am raised 2 inches. Fronts scrub the wheelwell liner a bit on full lock.

Im not worried about fitting in spare tire well.
And i think i know tallest i can fit, just not sure if i can use a 225 or 235 with a 15x7 +15 offset wheel.
Seems almost all discussion is just 215 wide due to oem wheel offset

235/75/15 will need some massaging of the pinch welds, trimming of wheel well plastic guards and a lower offset rim to make them fit, look into Dynamic D 15x7 5x100 +0 rims.
I have a set and they are awesome, many people use them and they are cheap.

225’s will be a harder tire to find, I’ve looked into this and found that there is a massive selection if choosing 215/75/15 or 235/75/15 but not with 225/75/15.

K02’s would be as aggressive as you can go with an A/T tire and still retain some on road functionality, otherwise maybe look into M/T tires.

I have 225/70r15's HT's on my +40 wheels on my SG. They lightly rub the plastic wheel liner at the rear of the front wheel arches while turning. Lower offset wheels give more clearance to the spring perch, but less clearance to the rear of the wheel arch when steering, as the wheel swings around more. As above, 235 will fit if you trim the plastic wheel lining and smash the pinch weld. A mate who runs the same size as me on 0 offset rims had more fitment issues then me, his was SF though.

The advantage of wider tyres is you can run lower pressures. Last beach trip I led everyone down a soft dead end beach. Out of everyone who followed, I was the only one to not get bogged as I could air my tyres down to 5psi while everyone else could only go down to around 8psi safely. MT's are great for real 4wding, but dig holes in sand, so probably won't help. Either HT or AT on beach. Less aggressive tyres are able to spin more on the spot before they dig a hole and leave you bogged.

+1 on that, @Red XS.

@4eaqt05, If you go 215/75R15, you will have plenty of choices. You may lose a lot of torque with that configuration. I usually use the old-school 3% rule on all my vehicles. That being said, G015s are available in 215/70R15 to keep the effective gearing close to stock and not worry about losing that much torque.

I, too, have been using G015s and they are just too cost-effective for my sort of wheeling. I can go with bigger and more aggressive tyres if I am to do 30% off-road off-trail driving. I am at around 5% right now and the tyres that I have benefit my driving style both on- and off-road. Cheers.

Well, i am awaiting rhe arrival of my 15x7 +15 offset Method Mr701 wheels, and think i have decided on 225/70/15 General Grabber at2 tires. Hopefully i wint regret it

Well, i went with 15x7 Method mr701 and 225/70/15 General Grabber At2

Good on ya! If we have methods here in the Southern Hemisphere, we'd be partying around them.

Hey! How’d it work out? Contemplating the same setup (currently on MR501’s with the same size AT2’s)
Do you rub at all on full compression?
