At ORS we will soon be migrating the forum to the XenForo platform to provide an enhanced experience overall. There will be some changes with which we all need to familiarize ourselves but we’re aiming for a similar layout to the existing forum and an appearance somewhat like the XenForo community forum here: https://xenforo.com/community/

The plan is to go live end August / early September and your input, and patience, will be very important in shaping the forum to best suit the needs of the ORS community. We are still learning but can assure you that the XenForo experience here will be very different to another Subaru enthusiasts site frequented by some members here!

You’ll see how XenForo can:
- Drag and drop images, videos, sound files
- Provide a better mobile experience
- Use JoyPixels v5.0. emoji and have all textual content supporting emoji, from message text to forum titles.
- Give Likes
- Add bookmarks
- Use Watch lists
- Have a private round-table “Conversation” (PM) with invited participants
- Allow logon with user name or email address
- Edit messages entirely in-place

Why are we doing this – well the vBulletin version being run is creaking and we want to add features but to obtain the latest version, which the experts have advised us against, is a complete conversion and there’s just been so many unhappy users and complaints about the latest vBulletin that it’s just not worth the risk. (BTW, prior to 2010, the developers of XenForo were once the Lead Developers at vBulletin so the transition to XenForo should be very smooth.)

Tapatalk – From a security perspective we would rather not provide a Tapatalk interface because XenForo already provides a good mobile interface. If you currently use Tapatalk please have a look at the XenForo community link above from your mobile’s browser as an example.

Looking forward to this, hopefully it will come with keyboard commands. ;)

Ben Up North "Please Explain" :iconwink:

Kevin, I think he is referring to (e.g.) Ctrl codes, such as Ctrl+b for bold, etc.

Yep, I tested that and it seems to work

Kevin, I hope it's not going to turn out like the other two abortions that I have abandoned.

No way Peter!

[ctrl]+[enter] to submit a post as opposed to clicking is sooooo much nicer.

No way Peter!

That is good to hear Kevin.
I take it that a lot more could have been and still needs to be done on that other abortion of a Subaru forum?
I see SuperRu is right royally p***** off with the Owners, and judging by comments of reduced member activity it would appear there are a lot of others in agreement with him.

Is the XenForo Demo worth having a look at, or is it all technical razzmatazz?

Yes they certainly screwed it up well and truly over there! The XF demo needs backroom knowledge as it gives you a base platform to build upon.

The link I gave gives some idea of what I had in mind i.e. clean, simple etc and we can probably do away with all the stuff in the right hand column though: https://xenforo.com/community/

Here's an example of a XF post I did on a demo forum a while back; look familiar?

Just got to fix the circular avatar. I think it can be expanded into a square with rounded corners.

Your doing good so far Kevin. Nice to see the edit button too.
Good luck with the round avatar.

Sorry to butt in here as a new member but are we talking about the forum I have just come from?

Yes - but the implementation here will be very different ;-)

Vertical Scope own a s***load of Forums so you will run into a lot of Forums like the Forester one.
If Vertical Scope had confided in the Admins & Mods that have already been running their sites, then the transition may have panned out better for their sites.

As it is some people like myself have already jumped ship from 2 of their sites, others are just not going to the site/s or posting anything, they sitting on the fence to see what happens.

^ and even though Peter said "sitting" just add an "h" in the appropriate place for what is really going on over there!
