Looking into the 1" spacer kit from ADF for the 2016 OB. But need to know max tire size that lift will accommodate. Sent an email to ADF but in the meantime hoping someone around here may know the answer?

Looking around online returns guides for 1.5" and 2" lift clearances, but nothing for 1". Which makes me think maybe it's stock size only?

Not sure about the Outback but I'm guessing just like other Subies your tire size will be limited by the front strut spring perch so the lift will make very little difference.

Got a reply from ADF and the max tire size for 1" would be 235/65R17. He says some guys do run 245/65 but may be getting some rubbing without a larger lift.

You may be right that the spring perch limits the max overall diameter which would be at least 245/65 then, but there is obviously an issue of rubbing other parts under compression or in a turn that a lift addresses. That's the clearance I was intersted in.

When you go offroad, bigger tyres will rub on the wheel arch without a lift even if they clear the spring perch

Yes, but he should have mentioned offsets. The lower the offset, the more rubbing you will have on the pinch weld behind the front tyres

Was just about to post a new thread on wheel specs for my OB. I've never really understood offsets and backspacing all that well. I mean I know what's going on, but it's hard to just see the different numbers and have a sense of what's going to work or not.

At the moment I'm looking at these two wheels:

1) The MOTEGI RACING MR139 17x7.5 40mm offset
2) The Sparco Terra 17x7.5 45mm offset

To be used with the ADF 1.5" lift and the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4s 235/65/17.

First choice it probably the Sparco.

By 5th gen I'm guessing you probably mean the latest model which is the BS Outback. It's actually 6th gen, remember there is no gen 1 Outback, the 1st Outback was a gen 2. The gen naming system has been all screwed up so it's better to use the model name

Your BS OB needs 17" wheels so those 2 choices are right, both very good wheels
The offset refers to how far the centre of the wheel sits from where it bolts onto the hub. +40/45 is similar to stock, sitting very slightly further out

235/65/17 should fit on this offset with no rubbing, maybe just a tiny bit on the pinch weld behind the front tyres. Easily fixed.

If you want another choice for a lift kit, message me, the SubieLiftOz kits have better offsets for better handling & are much easier to fit. Similar price too with FREE shipping to the US!
