There's a few modified Subarus in Cairns of various models, but by far the most common Suby up here is stock. they're so prevalent that it could hardly be considered a 'Marque' (or in the case of Peugot an oddity..)
Peugeots are not so much of an oddity as Subarus when it comes to doing things differently. My 404 was a very conventional car. The only thing odd about it was the hypoid diff. Even the styling resembled the late 50s GM cars.
I confess I still have a soft spot for older Pugs and even considered buying a new one instead of my Forester. I was pulled up next to one in a car park when I was weighing up my options and the owner came back to it while I was there. I asked them what they thought of it as I was looking at getting one. They very quickly changed my mind when they replied, "Don't buy one whatever you do. They're put together with spit!" :rotfl:
Such a change from the older bulletproof rally winners.
