Well just to ruin my day on my way home smoke suddenly came up from the front and I then noticed the temp gauge was nearly at top. So I turned in and shut down the engine at once.
The plastic top on the radiator on the passenger side where the hoses are connected got a slight crack at the front loosing coolant.
Not a good time since I more or less ruined myself on new suspension, 4wd alignment, inspection and other stuff in a short time.

Gotta HATE the plastic end tanks! My brother and I killed a rebuilt engine due to a plastic end tank exploding - 1/3 of the side tank was missing...

Hope you've got no damage to the engine!

Bennie

What rotten luck, I hope that the damage is just cosmetic with no major engine damage.

Regards
Mr Turbo

Sorry to hear this Elmy.

Hopefully it didn't get too hot for too long, might want to have the head gaskets checked.

Why is it they always do that when we're tapped out? Seems like there's some special Engine God who watches these things and says, "Oo, look, nows a bad time, Mwahhaaaa..."

Still, is there ever a good time? Hope it doesn't cost more than a set of hoses mate.

Thx guys. I got it checked up today and it seems it must gotten air in the system because the expension tank did not get any coolant. It was all dried up in there. But the plastic tank was full. So it all stopped up in the radiator. No wonder the engine overheated. I hope it did not cause any damage. I got the leak fixed temporary. Will have to keep an eye on the temp gauge and the leak area in the near future.

Edit: Lol Engine gods

that is unfortunate.......

i'm interested what the temporary fix of the plastic tank entails.....
glue ?

probably also depends on where exactly the crack is....
I suppose if its the interface between cores and tank, then it would be truly
stuffed.

Ah, since this is in the middle of the plastic. I haven't used glue yet. I bought some gastank/radiator fix. It seemed like it would not stick on the plastic but it did close the leak. it went between the crack.
I was thinking of sealing it with some kind of powerful glue to be sure.

Edit: It's tube like a small sigar. outside is black and the inside is grey. To use it you need to mix the black and grey substances. After a little while tho it will harden in your fingers while working with it.

Bad luck Elmy - let's hope it all holds together until you can fix it permanently.

Ye thx m8. I'm going to cover up the expenses since it seems I'm going to get a good salery....in a month. lol
I'm going to postpone the dentist hour I have the 5th so I can buy a new radiator instead this month. haha
I figure it's not that much different in price. The radiator cost 1/3 more then the dentist hour.

The header tanks are usually polypropylene. Glue won't bond to it, but it is possible to plastic weld them.

It is also possible just to replace the header tanks (they are clamped in by folded in metal fingers around the flange of the header tank). Most radiator guys can do it, but I have also seen them done with a pair of Vise-Grips (and a few stubbies of beer) at the side of the road.
