Excellent! What tyres does that SG have on it? I would love to have a set of those for muddy tracks!

That's my poor, beat up SF Foz. Had a hard life lol.

Tyres are Kumho Road Venture KL71 muddies, excellent offroad & surprisingly good for a muddy onroad. They've been replaced by MT51 but can still be found at tyre shops. Hugely popular 4wd tyre

Thanks. What size?

Doesnt look beat up at all. Looks ok still have that stock look. Those tires must be loud on road , do they? What snorkel is that?
And thanks for the info about what we need to have on our cars i never thought of that too much just have some 4t snatch strap or couple them in my trunk but no bow shackles.

It looks like those tyres are not available in 16 inch. Will 15 inch rims fit on an SH?

No.

I don't know if the Audi pepperpots will fit but you may get a very expensive 15" rally wheel to fit.

Any suggestions for mud tyres equal in diameter to 215X70X16 for 16 inch rims?

Yeah there's a few muddies in 16" but I'm not sure about 215/70/16.

15" rally rims are coming down in price now more people here are getting them. Give these guys a call:
Methods - Race Wheels Australia

Other choices are Motegi MR139, Konig Control, OX wheels OX817. Just confirm they fit a SH first, I think they do but not 100% sure.

scalman, the Kumho KL71 are slightly noisier than the other set I have, Geolandar G012, not bad like most muddies. Reasonable grip onroad for a muddy but nothing like the Geolandars. Probably just a little less grip than BFG KO2s

I've already got 215X70X16 Toyo Open Country AT2 and the tread pattern on those looks like it would be better in mud than the Geolanders. I bought them because I do mostly tarmac driving seeing its my only vehicle and I didn't want anything too noisy. I thought the KO2 would be noisy so I went for a compromise. After a day out with the club members I think I made the right decision but having seen some of the tracks they do on other trips I feel it might be a good idea to get something that's more oriented towards mud as a spare set.

Any thoughts on 15 inch steel wheels of the sunraysia style rather than Subaru originals. I was thinking of 20mm more offset as well.

Steel wheels are heavy & not always as strong as good alloy wheels. You also need rally style wheels to fit 15s on your SH. If you can afford it, they are the way to go. Methods are excellent & have copped some severe abuse esp in the US rally championship and come in +15 offset. Same with Team Dynamics.

I vote a big NO on steel wheels. If you can afford them, Braid wheels, from Spain, are amazing. They are not terribly expensive, just a little pricier than quality big name wheels such as Enkei Racing, assuming there is a distributor in Australia. There is a 15" Braid wheel, called Acropolis, which is used left and right in racing. I was looking at their 16" wheel, but we could not verify that fit on my OB would be possible by only using the template. So fit verification may be an issue.

I have had both Toyo OC ATII and BFG KO2s on my Subarus. I loved the ATII on dirt and they could and did get by in some decent mud but it is unclear whether the B9 was getting through thanks or in spite of the ATII. They are an AT and they do get clogged quickly.

The KO2s should be somewhat better in mud but they are still not a hybrid, let alone an MT tire.

There is a new Geolander MT to go with the new Geolander AT. Not sure what sizes.

Kumho MTs should indeed be a good to great value, if available in your size.

I have Compomotive wheels, custom made (ET30), not expensive.

We need mud tires for mud only and even in mud they are not always the best choice because we don't have enough power with our Subarus to make them turn/spin ! Its probably different in Australia where you have a lot of red clay though.

An aggressive all-terrain like the two models mentioned are both excellent for a Subaru and I can't imagine that you'll really notice a substantial grip difference in the muddy or clay type surfaces with the light weight of these things. I don't think there's enough benefit to getting the chunkier mud-tyres as they're so noisy and not much of a fair compromise. That said, you can get some BFG muddies in just about any size you want. Price and ease of finding a store with stock is much easier with a 16" rim. Definitely stay clear of the highway biased stuff simply because it clogs very easily, but the more open tread pattern of the BFG KO2's are my pick. I've tried a lot of different off-road tyres to my cars over the years and the KO2's are a much better compound than they used to have in the original version (still on sale here at the same time as the newer model for very little difference in price). The newer compound has much more grip on wet tarmac, much quieter than others, and yet they're still excellent offroad. I'll be putting my money where my mouth is and getting some myself in 225/70/16 fitted to my SH Forester quite soon.
