Finally, a real trip report including a Subaru & some offroad, well only a gravel road, but it was not paved.:)

Due to hasty planning and several series' of unfortunate events, our annual Spring Meet dwindled down to almost nothing. That was not going to put a stop to it however:), Ira (SubaJew on forester.com) and his lovely wife were returning from a trip to NY and were going to spend the weekend with us anyway. We tried to reschedule for this weekend after the first planned weekend wasn't going to work, but still, nobody was able to attend. So, we took matters into our own hands and had a grand day out.

We didn't head out to the traditional meeting spot since we were already together at my house. We just decided to head South on the Blue Ridge Parkway toward Cherokee NC.

We probably went through 15 tunnels over the day, this is one of the longer ones and there was about 20 Harley's in front of us.

We decided to let this Outback join our 'Meet' even though he didn't know it.

First stop, the Pisgah Inn for a little lunch, gotta' get the kids to pose in front of the motorcycles for their Uncle Jonny.

View from the deck just outside the restaurant, great food with suprisingly good prices.

Looking Glass Rock, I've never been to this point on the Parkway so I've never gotten this prospective before, I've always been near the bottom looking up. It is a really big rock!!!

Looking Glass Rock, and a couple other big rocks.

Getting higher in elevation some of the colors were almost fall like.

Just cruzin'.

Close to, but not quite at the highest elevation on the Parkway.

41.jpg

Rest stop for some of us...

43.jpg

...I had to 'run' the kids, sibling rivalry was getting the best of me.:shake:

49.jpg

And a little dirt to finish it off, beautiful road.

52.jpg

Lots of little streams and waterfalls along the road, this was one of the best...

Downhill side.

Stopping just to check things out.:)

65.jpg

These folks passed by, I was jealous.

70.jpg

Kids kept popping out of the sunroof :rolleyessarcastic:, glad they chose to while we were stopped.

More cruzin' video.

One more stop by the river, kids have got to throw some rocks.:)

Next time I'm keeping the sunroof closed.:iconwink:

Well we headed for home on the highway, had a nice grilled dinner and called it a day, a great one that is!!!

We'll do it again in the Fall, hopefully with a few more folks, coming the first or second weekend in Nov....

Great trip report carljwnc. :)
What a wonderful picture postcard area you got to explore, I'm so jealous :iconwink:
That restaurant view is brilliant.
The pic of Glass Rock resembles what Ayres Rock could look like with flora all around. :)

Thanks for sharing. :raz:

Your welcome to come on over for a visit anytime.:iconwink: I've seen pics of
Ayers rock, might have to do a little comparo research. Who has the bigger rock???

Truly beautiful country eh? Looks so pretty. Thanks. Hope you didn't forget the kids on the roof when you drove home!

Sometimes I wish I could leave at least one of them up there. You can take either one of them anywhere and they are the best kids in the whole world. Stick them in the car together for a few hours and your going to be going nutz after a while. They did have a great time, but sitting next to each other the temptation to pick on each other is too great to resist.:lildevil: I guess it's payback for my parents from when I was a kid on road trips with my brother and sister, we weren't the best behaved at times.:bananagunner:
