Video from last Saturday. While not technically difficult, some cars coped better than others. It was the most I have ever driven on sand, and never up hill. Thankfully I made it up easily first go. Awesome video. Looks like a great time!

nice video. but outback with standard tires and i guess no low psi no lift and full bumper . if that car passed there means its not so hard, but its great to see videos with more subarus in one group not just foresters , great outbacks there. just some need little lift , tires maybe sway bars disconnected and cut that hideous front bumper haha. good that all cars passed track some better prepared some less same for drivers, but non less seems all had great time. thats what you cant get driving alone.

Everybody aired down to 20 to 25 psi, as we were not expecting sand. I aired down to 25. Disconnecting swaybars would have achieved nothing on this trip as the tracks while very steep and at times soft were relatively smooth as far as putting articulation to the test. For the same reason lift was not such an issue. It wasn’t a technically difficult track, so even choosing the best line wasn’t so important, although the driver in the white outback drove straight into a hole on the first occassion and was too slow on the second run. I think he was a first timer. I ran road tyres, as did a couple of others. The sf struggled for torque rather than traction in the sand. I just slowly plodded along up both hills. The cameraman advised I was the slowest and made it with the least effort. Yet another example that better diffs are more important than tyre type.

well 25 bar is low enough and sf did best there . tires ok as long as you not drive on hard stuff dangerous stuff that can puncture your tires and on this track there was not much danger for tires. just saying that every australia 4wd / offroader / overlander pointing tires as first things even before lockers. and i think its more for stronger tire will hold more punishment not as more grip as on dry surface in hot weather standard tires are more softer and can have plenty grip. i saw in video plenty times when outback where just spinning tires and not going forward, thou with more travel or larger tires they would get grip there.
do you know which outbacks had VDC there if any and where they using it or turning off ? what gears they/you used there ? low gears / autos ?

The sf was running 20 psi, and struggled more than my car but did very well all the same. I don’t know what the Outback’s had, it was the first time I had seen any of them.

ohh i just thought you know each other . go it . i never drove with any group yet , would be cool with right people that are not some show offs only type "look my car does all best " . its weird sand there , looks more like dust , cars just sinks in it but not deep so that great. i guess in places like that good sealing is needed in all places so that dust dont go inside car all over if its some bad seal or holes in car is it ?

Fortunately I haven’t come across any show off types, at least not in the groups I have been in. The newbies are willing to listen, although it took one bloke a lot of convincing to lower his tyre pressures. The bloke in the SJ on a previous trip last year came on his first trip. My car wasn’t ready so I went as passenger in a mates car. Talk about throwing someone in at the deep end. It was a far more difficult track, and he learned a lot that day without damage. On this trip he learned to be less aggressive with the throttle. So all egos kept in check by themselves.

The SF and SG seemed the most happy on that terrain....I could see that the SJ has a higher centre of gravity than the "oldies".

If that's not a clear demonstration of the effectiveness of your drivetrain setup, I don't know what is.
