IIRC Subaru was the first domestic vehicle to cross the Simpson Desert unassisted.
 
The overall value of a Subaru, especially in places where it rains and/or snows regularly, is incredible. Rules the dirt to boot.
 
Yes, very popular in our snowy and high country regions as well.
 
Ben , good find. I'll second that MAS and Kevin, my daughter is a ski instructor at Mt Buller and loves her Forester. She and a number of other instructors all drive Subarus.
