2004 forester engine

Gday all.
Was thinking about changing my tired engine out of my 2004 forester for a lower km second hand engine & I've found one that is in a 2005 forester. Are these two the same motor with the same electronics?
Also is the gearbox from the 2005 the same as the 2004?

Should be, but swap the sensors just in case. As long as it is the early SG engines in both cases

Yes, they do look identical. All wiring & electronics are in the same places.

How many k's are we talking about?

Wiring may be in the same place but things may have changed even between model years. Your best bet will be to use your intake manifold and associated wiring and sensors as Rally has suggested.

Auto boxes I have no idea about. Manual boxes will be a direct swap providing there has been no change in diff ratio (there shouldn't be).
