Back up to the Central City area, had more time and even brought along some friends! Timmy and Brandi in their 4x4 Nissan Frontier LE crewcab with rims and oversized tires. Nice truck: supercharged V6, low range, all the goodies. And it's damn sexy imo. Was great to have some friends along to explore deeper into the trail system (still got stopped by snow), fool around taking the more difficult lines on the way back down, have lunch together and explore the Bald Mountain Cemetery, which none of us knew even existed.

Tons of pictures and video, a few things to note: Rally Armor mudflaps are awesome! Both the Foz and the Frontier went thru all the same stuff, but the truck is filthy! For the most part the Frontier was superior (obviously), however on one steeper hill with some oddly placed shelf rock, the narrow footprint and AWD on the Forester excelled while it took Timmy 4 times to get his truck up. It was my one moment of triumph!

Anyways, enjoy, and keep in mind all the hills there are pictures of us going down, we also had to go up.

Up we go into the clouds:

Tooling around, Karla and I got there about an early. Dash is pretty clean...

pulled over to let a lifted Chevy 1500 come by. We had seen him on the way up too. But now he had a cut in left front tire. BF Goodrich A/Ts. Ha! I'll stick with my ever reliable Generals...

ooo, this looks like fun. Figured I'd see what trouble I could get into, as now I had a vehicle to yank me out if I got two diagonal wheels off the ground and got stuck. No trouble, but it was fun!

Just as the clouds started to lower on top of us, we found this:

IMG_1255.jpg

A rather spooky placed tucked back into the middle of nowhere with a bunch of plots from a spattering of different decades. Note all the young children buried here in the photos.

Timmy picking up a wreath that had blown over in the wind, that was a continental airliner on the gravestone.

This one about made me cry. The inscription on the back was heart wrenching. Michael Ryan Mills, he was just under 2 years old.

This place was definitely a little creepy, especially cause you could feel when a cloud was blowing thru you, as the temperature would drop immediately!

Run Karla!!

Hey that's actually kinda a cool shot. Thanks Karla!

Something freaked Karla out again... I think she's gonna make me run with that look on her face!

Timmy trying to help out... (Yes, it was broken before he touched it, didn't keep Brandi from yelling at him tho.)

IMG_1275.jpg

Evidently the gentleman on the right was rather fertile...

This one was spectacular.

This one was outside the cemetery, tiny, with no inscription.

IMG_1316.jpg

So, Timmy decides to pet it for good luck.

IMG_1318.jpg

Alrighty, getting later in the afternoon and the clouds are getting heavier. Since we don't really know where this road goes, figured better to head out while we could still see. Atleast sort of...

IMG_1314.jpg

IMG_1320.jpg

Timmy hits some mud while the clouds continue to thicken. We are on a county maintained road now, so we're sure it goes somewhere...

It actually looped around to our starting point which was a three way split. :Banane17:
Karla, the dogs and I stuck around a little longer, Timmy and Brandi headed back.

IMG_1325.jpg

This was too much fun in the car to miss, so Karla snapped a quick shot at the top and hopped back in.

Alrighty, videos up next!

Too deep for the Foz, but the Frontier handled it! Well, besides bending one of the bumper brackets, easily fixed when Timmy jumped up and down on it.

Miscommunication....

Karla and I laughed cause Timmy accidentally honked his horn. And I thought I was the only one who ever did that... :icon_rolleyes:

Man it was beautiful!!

After a couple of tries the Frontier tackled this one. Probably the only point where a wider track really was a disadvantage, as the Forester went right up without a hitch.

There was overall more mud and water than last time, but the deep puddles we found last week had dried up a bit.

Timmy: "careful there's a hole there."

Frontier begged to have some fun too.

Keep in mind everything we went down in these videos, we had previously gone up. I am not friends with my manual transmission with no low range.

A fantastic day. A few more weeks and the trails should be clear of snow and we can go even further! Didn't try Apex, figured it was still snowed in.

There might end up being a duplicate of my second post, for that I apologize. Figured out a work around for the moderator approval, but only after I sent the first draft of the second post off for approval. *banghead

Fantastic stuff! Thanks for sharing! Looks like a great adventure.

Thanks Kevin!

It was a hoot, I very very rarely get to go out with other people besides Karla and maybe a tag along in the back seat. It was nice to have company and to watch how a more "capable" vehicle handled the trails.

That one took a while to get through, and it was well worth it!!! Sure am glad I don't have dial up. Not only did the wheelin' look great, but that cemetery was quite a find. I've come across cemetery's out in the middle of no where around here, but not on that scale of grandeur.

Awesome report Smash, keep 'em coming!!!

You sure know how to have a great time Smash81.
Great pics mate, thanks for sharing.

Regards
