From my recent trip to Fraser Island with the Subaru & Recreational 4WD Club:

1 - Transport to and from the island. The current is so strong that the barges drift sideways while crossing the small channel.

2 - My campsite just behind a small dune. Lost 2 metres of the dune due to increased swell while I was there

3 - My early morning view; not bad eh!

4 - Tragedy - 2 killed 9 injured when they swerved to avoid a wave. Inexperienced backpackers in 4WDs do lots of silly things we noted!

5, 6, 7, 9 - a passing parade.

G - Yep, backpackers. We were following them - we took a bypass around these rocks, they didn't.

H - An onlooker said the Subarus would not make it! Soon proved him wrong!

M - Food Locker Central Station A dingo got into one of our (soft-top) cars, removed a food box, opened it and took the contents. They are very clever.

From the Moreton Island segment of our recent trip.
MiCat Transport. This is a huge catamaran and was loaded with dump trucks containing contaminated sand on our way back. (There was a large fuel oil spill just a few weeks before we were due to visit and there was some doubt if the island would be open again in time.)

Tangalooma Resort. Last time I saw Tangalooma, I was a kid and it was a whaling station.

The Desert where lots of fun was had sliding down the dunes

Cape Moreton Lighthouse

Beautiful Eastern beach - you can see some of the workers involved in the cleanup after the oil spill

This Nissan 4WD gambled and lost

Beach Driving - sand on both islands was firm.

The little boats follow the MiCat across Moreton Bay for an easier crossing.

excellent photos kevin! Cant wait to get back over to the Islands. Did the second back packer troopy survive or is it another victim taken by the ocean?

That looks like it was an awesome trip!!!:) Incredibly beautiful scenery and fun driving. I love those lakes, I'm not a big water person, but I would have been swimming in there.

Thanks for sharing!!!

Great Photos, Kevin. Remember to send me some.

The Other troopie was lucky it was an outgoing tide and was off the rocks by the time we were on the was back. The would have still had a big bill to pay.

It was an excellent trip and we will definately be back there. You Queenslanders have it good.

Great pics Kevin, sounds as though you all had a great time. :raz:

Thanks for sharing.

Regards
Mr Turbo
