I'm trying to get a bit of lift on my forester for better offroading. I've searched all through the tyre threads for alternative sizes being fitted but doesn't look like many people have tried the 80 profile tyres on the foresters. The standard 16" wheels don't allow for tyres past 215width due to being only 6.5" wide.
Anything over 70 profile in the 215 width comes up as cargo tyres or van tyres so my next option would be to get a skinnier tyre but with 80 profile which provides lots of options for all terrains.
If anyone has fitted anything over 70 profile on their standard 16s please let me know.

you can go wider on a 6.5" rim - 225 for example.

I read that it's not recommended due to poor sidewall support. Planning to do some offroading especially sand so with deflated tyres am I running the risk of tyres slipping off the rim...Also would the higher profile allow for a 225 tyre? I see most people running 75 profile.

Fair enough. Cheers

I've done plenty of sand driving in my 2" lifted SH with 225/70/16's on the stock 16' alloys and had no problems when aired down. The people you see running a 75 profile is on a 15" wheel on the older foresters. Almost all 15"s don't fit on an SH. I'd recommend 215/70/16 tyres which are still a decent upgrade in sidewall from the stock size
