Has anyone here compared the springs between the series 1 and series 2 SG?
I know there are differences between different trim levels, but I have also found that the struts themselves (at least for North America) are different length, and the Series 2 have longer travel. This is based on info from the KYB catalog, and I have not been able to find info on springs.

It doesn't look like that thread states anything about the spring differences between the two series of SG. I am already aware of the SF differences. I also know that I don't really want to go any stiffer - maybe a slight bit in the rear, but not the front.

Hmmm, you're right, the original thread title threw me - I've changed it.

Thanks - language barrier? (kidding!)

2005 Front strut: 20.24" extended length, 15.39" compressed length, 4.85" stroke
2005 rear strut: 24.88" extended length, 17.91" compressed length, 6.91" stroke

2007 front strut: 20.7" extended length, 15.39" compressed length, 5.31" stroke
2007 rear strut: 25.31" extended length, 17.91" compressed length, 7.4" stroke

All figures from KYB website. At the very least, these allow more droop travel. I can't find anything more than part numbers for springs so far.

Your figures are a bit strange !

Stroke is much higher in real life for SG I, like 7.5" front and 7.8" rear.

As I said, taken straight from KYB website. Not sure what else to say. These numbers do not include the internal limiter travel, but not sure how much that is.

I'm not sure about series 1&2, but SG XT struts have 0.5" longer stroke on the front. AFAIK, all SG rear struts are the same, at least in Oz.

I swapped struts and spings between an MY04 and an MY07 recently. No-one has even noticed that they were different. (Not the mechanic, and not me. Both cars look and drive exactly as I'd expect them to look and drive. I doubt that there is actually any difference.

The 07 gear (now on the 04) was stock standard; the 04 gear (now on the 07) had standard (near new) Subaru struts and front springs, HD rears, with 25mm lift blocks all round.

Just a quick revisit here, as (after an unplanned engine repair), I am finally ready to order struts.
cars101.com shows a .5" ground clearance starting MY 2006 in North America.

Nope. They were comparing 2005 model year to 2006 model year (North American market).
Also found this: https://www.autoblog.com/buy/2006-Subaru-Forester/ "The suspension has been revised in an effort to improve ride comfort, adding a bit more ground clearance for off-road forays."

Whatever the case, I dropped the whole thing and just ordered the part numbers listed for my 2005. I don't have time to take it all apart and find out that something else changed that makes my springs or something not work.
