Hi everyone! New here
I am trying to lift my 97 legacy wagon, BUT I don't want to spend a whole bunch of money. I bought 26.5in diameter tires so i'm trying to clear those.

My question is: If all I did was a strut/spring swap from a forester, is the other stuff necessary? The lift blocks, the trailing arms, all that stuff. Do I need to?

I found another member who claims to have only installed 04 forester struts and springs and 1" spacers. I wold ask them if they had any long term consequences but I believe they are not active anymore.
Thanks guys!

G'day & welcome aboard!

I can't advise re the 04 Foz strut compatibility but, no, you do not necessarily need all the other stuff. Before my Foz I had a '97 Outback wagon into which I simply installed raised springs.

Thanks! Glad to be here
The reason I ask is because I have seen a lot of lifted outbacks but not so many legacys. Outback come stock with a modified set up to accommodate for their lift, like blocks and different trailing arms and mounts. Since the legacy doesn't come with any, is it different lifting the stock legacy since there is a greater difference in lift height? (Outback -> Forester is smaller than Legacy -> Forester)

In Australia we call them Liberty's because Legacy was trade marked. I had a lifted Liberty as did many others. It was a the previous generation to yours. In the gen 1 Liberty's SG forester front struts are a direct swap. In the rear the struts and springs are a direct swap but you had to put the Liberty top hats on the Forester struts..

I don't know for sure about Gen 2 Liberty/Legacy but they are 'probably' the same or very similar. Search on the AUSubaru.com forum for a member called Venom he will know 100% for sure.

Venom is on here as well - perhaps send him a PM if he doesn't see this thread.

Gday McLegacy, welcome!

You're in luck! Forester struts are a direct swap both front and rear for the gen 2! Use SG Forester struts as they have a higher spring perch for tyre clearance, also gives you a free 1/2" lift rear to help correct the dreaded butt sag lol.

You can also add strut top spacers but don't need them. You may need rear trailing arm spacers though, these keep the rear wheels centred. I have them in 1", 2" & 3", PM me for details

I am running 225/60/16 on my 97 Legacy sedan. All I have for a lift at the moment is strut and springs from a 98 Outback wagon. I am not sure what my tires would be in your measurement but I have plenty of clearance with no rubbing on the street. I have only taken it off road once on a ATV path and had no rubbing at all.
